The Laboratory of Infectious Diseases Studies was established in December 2003 according to the Order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the Order of the Rector of Ternopil Medical Academy.
The LIDS is state accredited and has received the Act for Right to perform measurement procedures in state metrological supervision. The State Accreditation Commission has noted high proficiency and qualification of the laboratory staff in conducting the investigations.

The following studies are carried out in the laboratory:
- Enzyme immunoassay for:
– markers of endothelial dysfunction;
– interleukins content in the serum of patients;
– cryptosporidium in the patients with HIV/AIDS, etc.
- Determination of indicators of cellular and humoral immunity by ELISA.
- Determination of markers of endotoxicosis and immunotoxicosis.
- Biochemical studies of functional status of the liver (AsAT, AlAT, alkaline phosphatase, γ-glutamine-transpeptidase, thymol test, etc.).
For conducting these studies the laboratory is equipped with: a photoelectric enzyme immunoassay analyser AIF-C-01C, an enzyme immunoassay analyser Sunraise with Magellan-4 program, a spectrophotometer SF-26, KFK-2-UHL-4.2, a universal ionomer EV-74, centrifuges, thermostats, an aquadistiller DE-4.2, a apothecary balance, a torsion balance, an electronic laboratory balance, etc..

The fragments of three complex interdepartmental research works are carried out in the laboratory; one of them is funded by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine (“Clinical, epidemiological and immunological substantiation of the improvement of preventive and therapeutic techniques in cases of influenza and other acute respiratory viral infections”, No. 0110U001824), as well as a number of PhD and doctorate theses.
