During the study of the discipline, the student becomes a direct participant in the process of providing medical assistance to patients with a mental problems from the moment of their admission to the hospital, examination of mental status, diagnosis, appointment of adequate treatment until their discharge from the clinic and rehabilitation. Thanks to such a system, students acquire professional practical skills. In a practical session each student independently under the guidance of the teacher observes patients. Students’ work includes such individual creative tasks as analysis of the effectiveness of the use of different drugs, methods of diagnosis and treatment, study of scientific literature.

The purpose of nursing study in psychiatry and narcology is the ultimate goal of the training: to provide emergency medical care for severe mental disorders, to determine the tactics of managing patients with mental disorders, to determine the complex etiological factors, pathogenetic mechanisms of the course and clinical manifestations of mental and psychosomatic disorders, to use methods of prevention of mental and psychosomatic disorders.
