This course provides a study of the patterns in a community and the nurse’s role in promoting and preserving the health of the population as a whole. Emphasis will be on promotion of community health with focus on community theories, the history of community health nursing, community health nursing models, community health nursing roles, biostatistics and epidemiological standards of community health nursing practice, political processes and practices basic to community health nursing practice, critical evaluation of community health nursing research, environmental health, and health care delivery systems. The student will assess, diagnose, plan, intervene and evaluate the health status of individuals, families, groups, and communities within urban and rural settings, with emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention at the community level.
