Improving student training facilities is priority for Ternopil State Medical University administration. Recently, TSMU launched a dentistry phantom class with 14 workstations, allowing students to work on their practical skills. The new training facility joins the first phantom class with 12 stations opened last year. The phantoms allow to simulate therapeutic, orthopedic, surgical and children’s dental cases, while the instructors help to analyze each situation in detail. Practical tasks in the phantom class are as close as possible to the real work of a dentist. The new phantom class will be primarily used for training in pediatric and orthopedic sdentistry.
Phantoms installed in the class are produced by Ukrainian manufacturers, including a company from Severodonetsk. High-tech dental equipment students use to carry out dental manipulations is form Italian manufacturer Halit. Refining their skills in the phantom class will allow dentistry students to develop their confidence and progress to work with patients. Dental skills can be perfected on removable jaws. During the class instructors can point out to mistakes and give practical recommendations. Phantom class workstations realistically simulate real-life dentist’s workplace. Thus, training in the phantom class will contribute to developing of a variety of skills and tasks. The class is also equipped with a multimedia system.
