Each year on October 1 world community observes the International Day for Older Persons. This day is gives everyone an opportunity to reflect on the human duty to be caring and compassionate towards one of the most respected, but also vulnerable, groups of people. Volunteers from the Red Cross Youth Ternopil have marked this day with a special mission. For two days Ternopil State Medical University students and clinical residents – the Red Cross Society volunteers prepared for the city pensioners care packages sponsored by WHOE (Apeldoorn, Netherlands). Each package contains the most essential foods needed every day, such as pasta, buckwheat, flour, salt, sugar, butter, cooking oil and sweets. 900 pensioners of the region will receive the packages. Overall, the cost of purchased goods reached 7 thousand euros.
Organizers and volunteers hope that at least in a small way, these packages will make often-difficult life of people the elderly a bit easier. They also hope to raise awareness, especially among of younger generations, about to the problems facing those who dedicated their entire lives to their children and grandchildren, taught them life lessons and readily shared everything they could.
Fourth-year student of the Faculty of Medicine Solomiia Pindykivska organized the event. Joining her were third-year student of the Faculty of Medicine Kateryna Yankovenko, fourth-year student of the Faculty of Medicine Yuliya Solonynka, fifth-year student of the Faculty of Medicine Kateryna Sorochan, and clinical intern Amin Mudassar.
