TNMU dentistry students completed practical training at the clinical facilities of Wroclaw Medical University
According to the Agreement on Academic Mobility between I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University and Wroclaw Medical University, students of our university have the opportunity to complete medical training at the facilities of Wroclaw clinics.
This year, fifth year students of the Faculty of Dentistry Halyna Kruhlytska, Tetiana Derhak and fourth year students Nadia Kysil, Olha Tkachuk, Solomia Kravchuk and Yaryna Tylchak had the opportunity to improve their practical skills at the clinical facilities in Wroclaw Medical University for two weeks.
The group of students was supervised by the Head of Practical Training Department, Ph.D. Maksym Herasymiuk.
Future dentists had the opportunity to gain invaluable experience in the Departments of Maxillofacial Surgery, Dental Surgery, Pediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics, Periodontology and Orthopedic Dentistry.
Completing practical training at the department and in the clinic of maxillofacial surgery, our students were present at surgical interventions for odontogenic sinusitis, injuries of the bones of the facial skull, benign neoplasms of the soft tissues of the face, purulent-inflammatory processes, diseases of the temporomandibular joint and salivary glands. In addition, they got acquainted with the latest methods of diagnosis and treatment and the history of the development of maxillofacial surgery in Wroclaw, and actively participated in the examination of patients.
At the Department of Surgical Dentistry, dental students assisted during dental surgeries in the treatment of chronic periodontitis and cystectomy, were involved in typical and atypical tooth extraction, learned to carry out application, infiltration and conduction anesthesia, treated patients with pericoronaritis and got acquainted with the principles of drug therapy in diseases of the maxillofacial area.
During practice at the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, future dentists joined the treatment of caries and its complications (pulpitis, periodontitis), provided recommendations for oral care, carried out preventive measures, became familiar with the use of psychological methods of work with children.
Completing practical training at the Department of Periodontology, the future doctors were entrusted to perform professional oral hygiene, measure the depth of tooth pockets and carry out therapeutic drug treatment of gingivitis.
While attending the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry, our students attended the lecture by Dr. Wojciech Grzebieluch, who spoke about the principles of using CAD / CAM technology.

Wroclaw is a charming city that is proud of its magnificent historical monuments, so in its spare time students visited the Market Square, admired the architecture of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and the Church of St. Elizabeth, explored the Wroclaw University building, visited the oldest and largest Polish zoo and were inspired by the spirit of history, viewing the Racławice panorama, and visiting other European cities – Dresden, Warsaw and Prague.
