9th Scientific Symposium “Immunopathology in Respiratory and Digestive Diseases. International Pulmonology School”

On October 7-9, 2021, the 9th Scientific Symposium “Immunopathology in Respiratory and Digestive Diseases. International Pulmonology School” was held at I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University.

The symposium was organized by the Department of Higher Nursing Education, Patient Care and Clinical Immunology and the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Medicine and Phthisiology of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University and supported by Wroclaw Medical University, Poland.

The Vice-Rector for Research, Professor Ivan Klishch, welcomed the conference participants with. He congratulated everyone on behalf of Professor Mykhailo Korda, the Rector of TNMU, and wished success and fruitful work to the participants of the scientific meeting.

“We are pleased to welcome you in our university at the traditional scientific symposium. Vaccination against COVID-19 helped us to change the online format of the meetings and training and allowed moving to usual academic regime”, said Ivan Mykolaiovych.

Professor Ihor Hospodarskyi, the Head of the Department of Higher Nursing Education, Patient Care and Clinical Immunology of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University started the plenary session with greetings to the conference guests, appreciations for their participation and indifference to the symposium issues.

Ihor Yaroslavovich presented a report on “Biological therapy in the treatment of patients with inflammatory bowel disease and extraintestinal lesions”.

Professor Leonid Hryshchuk, the Head of the Phthisiology Course of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, greeted the participants of the 9th Scientific Symposium and told about the experience of using probiotics after combined antibiotic therapy in patients with COVID-19.

Professor Natalia Banadyha, the Head of the Department of Paediatrics, Faculty of Postgraduate Education, I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, reported on “Current approaches to respiratory infections in COVID-19 pandemic”.

The speech of Innu Friesen from Labor Berlin-Charite Vivantes GmbH, Berlin, Germany, on “Characteristics of chemoresistant tuberculosis, features of diagnosis and treatment” was very interesting to the symposium participants.

Professor Olena Samohalska, the Head of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, presented to the participants of the symposium the report on “COVID-19 and liver damage”.

The report on “Post-COVID syndrome – challenging issues of rehabilitation” was presented by Professor Lilia Todoriko, the Head of the Department of Tuberculosis and Pulmonology of Bukovyna State Medical University.

Professor Vadym Zhebel, the Head of the Department of Internal Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine No. 2 of Vinnytsia National Medical University, reported on “Micronutrients and antioxidants in prevention and treatment of acute respiratory viral infections”.

Professor Ihor Hospodarskyi from I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University continued the plenary session with the report on “Treatment of allergic rhinitis in immunocompromised patients”.

The report by Oksana Kapustinska, Associate Professor of the Department of Therapy No. 1, Faculty of Postgraduate Education, Medical Diagnostics, Hematology and Transfusiology, Danylo Halytskyi Lviv National Medical University, on “Hepatolienal syndrome in the gastroenterology practice. Focus on Gaucher disease” was really interesting to the audience.

Nadiya Reha, Associate Professor of the Department of Higher Nursing Education, Patient Care and Clinical Immunology, I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, expanded on current approaches to the treatment of recurrent herpes.

The International Pulmonology School within the Scientific Symposium is traditional.

The school was prepared for a long time by the teams of Ternopil National Medical University and Wroclaw Medical University.

The meetings of the International Pulmonology School were held for three days online. The reports were presented by lead scientists from Poland, Italy, Germany, Romania and Ukraine. A total of 25 speakers.

In particular, the following works were presented:

Professor Dmytro Butov, the Department of Tuberculosis and Pulmonology of Kharkiv National Medical University, reported on “Features of treatment of patients with sensitive tuberculous meningitis and lungs in combination with HIV”.

The report on “Unclassifiable idiopathic interstitial pneumonia” was presented by Professor Wojciech Piotrowski, Lodz Medical University, Poland.

Professor Leonid Hryshchuk from TNMU interested the audience of the International Pulmonology School with the presentation on “Modern methods of bronchiectasis disease diagnostics”.

Ewa Jassem, a representative of Gdansk Medical University, Poland, expanded on “Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) – diagnosis and management”.

Professor Timo Ulrichs, the Director of the Institute for Research and International Cooperation of Akkon University of Human Sciences, Berlin, presented the report on “Epidemiology of Tuberculosis during the COVID-19 Pandemic”.

Professor Enrico Clini, University of Modena, Italy, presented two reports on “Pulmonary Rehabilitation and COVID-19: is it time for a new era?” and “Physical Activity and prognosis in COPD”.

Professor Wojciech Barg, Head of the Department and Clinic of Internal Medicine, Pneumology and Allergology, Wrocław Medical University, Poland, thanked the university management, Professor Ihor Hospodarskyi and Professor Leonid Hryschuk, for a long-term cooperation and successful International Pulmonology School.

At the end of the 9th Scientific Symposium “Immunopathology in diseases of the respiratory and digestive organs. The International Pulmonology School” the organizers summed up the work of plenary and sectional meetings, thanked the university management, all speakers and participants of the scientific forum for their participation.
