The Committee on Bioethics of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University is an independent body; in conducting experimental research and clinical trials it follows the regularities of the Constitution and laws of Ukraine, acts of the President of Ukraine and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the recommendations of UNESCO, the World Health Organization and other organizations of the UN as well as the European Council, the European Conventions for the protection of Human Rights and Dignity of the Human Being with regard to the Application of Biology and Medicine: Convention on Human Rights and Biomedicine, as well as the Convention for the Protection of Vertebrate Animals used for Experimental and Other Scientific Purposes, the Committee on Bioethics under the jurisdiction of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the Committee on Bioethics of the Presidium of National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine.
The main tasks of the Committee on Bioethics:
- Bioethical protection of laboratory animals used for scientific purposes;
- Defence of the rights and interests of the examined humans involved in the clinical trials for medicines;
- Ethical and moral evaluation of clinical trial materials;
- Defence of the rights and interests of researchers.
The Committee reviews the materials prior to and during a clinical trial within a fixed timeframe and provides a customer and/or a researcher with a written finding with the name of a trial, documents considered, date and one of the possible decisions: a positive decision about a clinical trial; requirements for amendment of the documentation provided to attain a positive decision about a clinical trial; refusal for a clinical trial; termination/suspension of a previously issued positive decision regarding a clinical trial that takes place during it the trial.
The Committee, its members and specialists/experts involved in investigation of the researches guarantee confidentiality of the information attained, according to current legislation on the protection of information and intellectual property.
The Committee evaluates ethical and moral aspects before a research on the subject matter of a PhD thesis and during its implementation.
The Committee reviews the materials of the conducted researches on the area of a PhD thesis and within a fixed timeframe provides a researcher with a written decision with the name and dates of the studies and documents considered by the Committee.
