The ITRL was initiated to assist the University research staff in arrangement and conduction of researches, to provide information material.

The ITRL consists of three sectors:

  • Sector of Clinical and Laboratory Studies;
  • Sector of Experimental and Clinical Studies;
  • Sector of Morphological Studies.

The laboratory is certified by a Commission of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine for the right to carry out measurements (studies) in the field of regulated metrology for 5 years (Attestation Certificate No. 132/17, issued on December 29, 2017).

Experienced specialists, who at times raise their qualification taking thematic advanced training and pre-certification series in clinical and laboratory diagnostics, are engaged in the laboratory.

The students of the Faculties of Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry as well as laboratory technicians, who take postgraduate training, thematic advanced training and pre-certification series, study in the ITRL.

The laboratory carries out: biochemical, general clinical, haematological studies, enzyme immunoassay, immunological testing, cell culture screening, electron microscopic, morphological and morphometric studies, molecular genetic testing (polymerase chain reaction) as well as flow cytofluorometry.

The studies using flow cytofluorometry and polymerase chain reaction technique are widely used in scientific research.

In the clinical laboratory up-to-date equipment is used: haematological analyser Yumizen Н500 CT, binocular microscopes <^ KAKCM, centrifuge OPN 3.02. (the Sector of Clinical and Laboratory Studies).

The biochemical laboratory is equipped with a biochemical semiautomatic analyser Humaluzer-2000, an up-to-date semiautomatic coagulometer LabAnalyt, a centrifuge OPN 3.04, a photoelectric colorimeter KFK-3 (the Sector of Clinical and Laboratory Studies), a biochemical semiautomatic analyser Master T, a spectrophotometer Lambda 25, a spectrophotometer SF-120, a centrifuge Z 32 NK, a microcentrifuge Mikro 120, a centrifuge Rotofix 32 A, an inverted microscope NIB 100 (the Sector of Experimental and Clinical Studies).

The Immunology Laboratory is equipped with a flow cytofluorometer Becman Culter Epix XL, which allows present-day studying of cellular immunity using monoclonal antibodies (the Sector of Clinical and Laboratory Studies).

The enzyme immunoassay laboratory is equipped with an enzyme immunoassay analyser Multiskan FS 357, a tablet temperature-controlled shaker PST-60 HL, a centrifuge OPN 3.04.

The polymerase chain reaction laboratory is equipped with an amplifier Rotor Gene 6000, an amplifier PERKIN ELMER GeneAmp-2400, a semiautomatic centrifuge TETA-2, and a microcentrifuge MINI SPINE (the Sector of Experimental and Clinical Studies).

In the laboratory of polymerase chain reaction the studies on the presence of influenza A, B, A/H1N1 swine, hepatitis B, C, quantitative determination of viral hepatitis C as well as many other infectious agents (chlamydia, cytomegalovirus, mycoplasma,  ureaplasma, helicobacter, papillomavirus, herpes types 1, 2, etc.) are conducted.

In the Molecular Genetic Unit of the laboratory the researches on borreliosis and other tick-borne infectious diseases via an enzyme immunoassay, polymerase chain reaction, western blot analysis are conducted.


The studies are carried out on behalf of the Lyme Borreliosis Research Center (PCR detection of the DNA of the main Borrelia burgdorferi and Borrelia miyomatoi, Anaplasma phagocytophilum species; enzyme immunoassay: detection of IgM and IgG antibodies to the main Borrelia burgdorferi species. Identification of ticks is performed by a stereomicroscopic system SEO, which includes a stereomicroscope, a colour digital camera and a photoadapter.

The Cell Culture Unit (the Sector of Experimental and Clinical Research) is equipped with an up-to-date laminar biosafety box BCS120 A class 2; a CO2 incubator ICO 150; an inverted microscope Delta Optical NIB 100, freezers of up to -70 ºC, as well as autoclaves and dry-heat cabinets, bi-distillers and deionizers for water purification, bench-top centrifuges.

In the morphological sector histological, electron microscopic, morphometric studies are carried out; it is equipped with 3 electron microscopes of PEM-125 K, EM-100, 3 light optical laboratory microscopes: MICROmed SEO SCAN with video cameras (1 of them with a polarization adapter), ultramicrotomes LKB-3 and UMPT-7.
