On May 30-31, 2024, an occupational therapy workshop \u201cExpected results and teamwork in the rehabilitation of persons with spinal cord injuries\u201d and \u201cSpecific rehabilitation for persons with tetraplegia, reintegration into the community\/life after the hospital\u201d was held at the Lviv Hospital of Saint Panteleimon. The training was based on the occupational therapy training modules of the ElearnSCI platform (https:\/\/www.elearnsci.org\/).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event is organized as part of the project \u201cImproving rehabilitation services in health care systems\u201d funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the international organization \u201cMomentum Wheels for Humanity\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The training discussed issues of providing occupational therapy services to persons with spinal cord injury, in particular, expected results depending on the level of injury, return to life roles, reintegration into the community, modification of the living environment and hand functions in persons with tetraplegia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was attended by the teachers of universities of Ukraine, whose departments teach occupational therapy, as well as occupational therapists, assistants of occupational therapists who provide services to persons with spinal cord injuries in health care institutions and rehabilitation centres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trainer of the event was Johanna Wangdell (Sweden), an occupational therapist, Associate Professor of Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, who provided important information about intervention in patients with spinal cord injuries and shared her knowledge and practical experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TNMU was represented by Professor, Head of the Department of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physical Education Daria Popovych, Assistant Professor of this department Olena Vaida, master\u2019s degree students Olha Petriv and Liudmila Kozibroda. In addition, the masters of our university who participated in the training are also assistants of physical therapists of the Ternopil Regional Clinical Psychoneurological Hospital.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The knowledge and practical skills acquired during this workshop will be implemented in the educational process, scientific and practical work of the department, in the treatment process of the Ternopil Regional Clinical Psychoneurological Hospital, which is a branch of the Department of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physical Education of TNMU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
