The training seminar \u201cIPOKRaTES\u201d on the topic \u201cHot topics in Neonatology: current approaches and future perspectives\u201d was held on May 22-25, 2024 in Athens. Its purpose is to increase the professional level of neonatologists with the participation of international experts, well-known neonatologists. More than 50 participants from all over the world took part in the \u201cIPOKRaTES\u201d seminar.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n

During the \u201cIPOKRaTES\u201d seminar, international experts told the neonatal community about the world standards of care for newborns, and there was also an active discussion and an interesting discussion about complex clinical situations in neonatological practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her report, Professor Ju Lee Oei (Australia) focused the attention of neonatologists on the importance of correctly prescribing O2 therapy to newborns, especially premature babies, during birth, in the intensive care unit and during the period when the child is discharged home, taking into account modern recommendations and the results of clinical trials of research Oxygen therapy is not always useful!<\/p>\n\n\n

Professor Richard A. Polin (USA) drew attention to the main causes of BPD, noted that the best way to prevent this pathology is to avoid artificial lung ventilation (and ventilation with positive pressure). The risk of BPD is reduced by the administration of caffeine, vitamin A, and dexamethasone, however, the safety of systemic dexamethasone remains uncertain.<\/p>\n\n\n

Professor Richard Polin also emphasized the importance of the question of the need for treatment of PDA in premature newborns. Indomethacin and ibuprofen are recommended for the treatment of PDA.<\/p>\n\n\n

Professor Andreas W. Flemmer (Germany) spoke about complex anomalies of the development of the upper respiratory tract, modern diagnostic approaches and perinatal management for their surgical correction.<\/p>\n\n\n

A child with congenital obstructive syndrome of the upper respiratory tract \u2013 a large laryngeal cyst that was removed by EXIT intervention (ex-utero intrapartum treatment)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Professor Josef Neu (USA) in his reports focused on the criteria of necrotizing enterocolitis in newborns, biomarkers important for diagnosis and modern approaches to treatment, future prospects.<\/p>\n\n\n

During the presentation of the work \u201cNot everything that shakes is epilepsy\u201d, Professor Maria Roberta Cilio (Belgium) emphasized the issues of differential diagnosis of seizures in newborns and the specifics of their treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Neena Modi (UK) in the report \u201cThe growth of the very preterm babies\u201d revealed the peculiarities of nutrition, growth in premature babies, adverse long-term consequences of insufficient and excessive nutrition in this category of patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Children\u2019s Medical Care Foundation (CMCF), headed by President Jolanta Martinoff, contributed to the opportunities of teachers of Ternopil National Medical University Prof. Halyna Pavlyshyn and Assoc. Prof. Iryna Sarapuk to take part in the IPOKRaTES seminar.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n

Participation in the seminar gave an opportunity not only to increase the qualification and professional level in the field of neonatology, to share experience in the care and treatment of the main nosologies in premature babies, as well as to establish and expand personal contacts, which will contribute to the development of international cooperation, creative communication and integration of the university into the global scientific environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
