Since April 29 to November 1, 2022, Assistant Professor of TNMU Department of Histology and Embryology Nataliya Ohinska participated in the \u201cErasmus+ KA107\u201d program at the laboratory centre of the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Centre for Research in Molecular Medicine and Chronic Disease (CiMUS) is a laboratory centre that was established in 2010 on the basis of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC).  The main goal of the centre is to promote the development of interdisciplinary research in the field of biomedical sciences through internal interaction and cooperation, as well as work with relevant national and international groups. Research at CiMUS is mainly focused on the following thematic areas: oncology, cardiometabolism and neuroscience. In addition, work in the areas of genetics and functional genomics, experimental therapy, bionics and bioinformatics is actively developing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The centre includes 40 research laboratories that are designed with flexibility, security in mind, equipped with the most advanced technologies to support research and provide researchers with the best quality results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

N. Ohinska took part in the work of the research team of circadian rhythms and glial biology (Circadian and Glial Biology), under the supervision of Olga Barka Maio and accompanied by post-graduate students Maria Luengo Mateus and Maria Silveira Loureira.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During her internship, Nataliya Ohinska, accompanied by Maria Luengo Mateus and Maria Silveira Loureiro, worked at the Experimental Biomedicine Centre (CEBEGA), which provides an opportunity to conduct experimental research on animal models using a unique infrastructure for conducting state-of-the-art biomedical research.  She also mastered stereotaxic surgery in the arcuate, ventromedial and supraoptic nuclei of the hypothalamus with the introduction of Lentivirus POMC Cre-GFP, performed ovariectomy to study metabolic changes in sexually mature female mice, performed perfusion of experimental animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also carried out research on histological preparations of the brain and hypothalamus using light, fluorescence and confocal microscopy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Together with the laboratory group, Nataliya Ohinska participated in the symposium on July 11-12, 2022 (1st CiMUS Symposium \u201cFrom bench to human translational research\u201d Santiago de Compostela, Spain), where challenges and trends related to biomedical research from their theoretical perspective basics for clinical application were discussed: concomitant diseases related to metabolism, importance of the brain in human diseases, new ideas in cancer treatment, aging and regeneration of the body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, on October 18, 2022, together with the team, Nataliya Ohinska took part in the poster session of the glial symposium (VI Symposium of the Portuguese Glial, Porto, Portugal), which is devoted to the molecular determinants of the identity and development of glia, its physiological role and regeneration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Excursion to the \u201cBeach of the Holy Cathedrals\u201d and the town of Korubedro<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The experience gained during the mobility will allow to expand and introduce new modern methods of molecular biology in scientific research of Ternopil National Medical University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The internship will expand scientific cooperation between the University of Santiago de Compostela and I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nataliya Ohinska expresses her heartfelt appreciation to the administration and International Affairs Office of Ternopil National Medical University, as well as the mobility curator \u201cErasmus+ KA107\u201d Isabel Barreiro and the head of the research team of circadian rhythms and glia biology Professor Olga Barko Mayo for the opportunity to  be a participant in the program and the experience gained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
