On October 12-16, 2022, the 20th Congress of the European Society for Immunodeficiency took place in Gothenburg (Sweden), which was attended by 2,050 participants from 73 countries, including the Head of the Department of Paediatric Diseases and Paediatric Surgery of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, Professor Oksana Boyarchuk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The congress was devoted to the topic \u201cDysregulation and hyperinflammation in congenital immune errors\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An important place in the Congress was occupied by reports dedicated to COVID-19, the peculiarities of its course in patients with inborn errors of immunity. Prof. J-L Casanova (USA) presented the report \u201cGenetics and immunology of COVID-19\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The head of the \u201cCOVID Human Genetic Effort\u201d consortium, Prof. J-L Casanova (USA) presented the research results<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several presentations covered the immunology, genetics, clinical features, and management of multisystem inflammatory syndrome associated with COVID in children. Of particular interest were the reports devoted to phenocopies of inborn errors of immunity, where Paul Bastard (France) shared the study \u201cAutoantibodies to interferon type I and viral infections.\u201d It should be noted that a number of reports presented at the ESID 2022 European Congress were based on the results of the work of the International Consortium \u201cCOVID Human Genetic Effort\u201d, in which I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University participates too. During the work of the Congress, a meeting was held with Paul Bastard (France), Anna Sediva (Czech Republic), other members of the consortium and as well as the discussion of ways of further cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were very interested in the meeting dedicated to the implementation of neonatal screening for severe combined immunodeficiencies in Europe. Scientists from Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, and Israel shared their achievements. It should be noted that Ukraine is the only one among the countries of Eastern Europe where population screening of severe combined immunodeficiencies is introduced, and scientists at TNMU conducted a pilot project for the first time in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the congress, Prof. Oksana Boyarchuk met with old partners: Prof. Efimia Papadopoulou-Alataki<\/em> from Greece, Prof. Ma\u0142gorzata Pac<\/em> from Poland and other colleagues, thus, the directions for further cooperation were discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
