On July 6-8, 2022, a delegation of reconstructive surgery specialists from Vienna Medical University visited I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University. On the first day of the visit, doctors Univ.-Prof. Dr. Christine Radtke<\/strong> (MBA, FEBOPRAS, Head Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery) and Dr.med.univ. Maryana Teufelsbauer<\/strong> (Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery), as well as Prof. Harald Teufelsbauer<\/strong> (Department of General and Vascular Surgery) met with the Rector of TNMU, Professor Mykhaylo Korda<\/strong> and discussed the possibility of practically helping wounded soldiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The guests were also informed about the achievements of the university, its scientific and material and technical facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 7, Austrian specialists delivered a lecture on \u201cModern principles of reconstructive surgery\u201d for surgeons of the Ternopil region (the online broadcast can be viewed here: https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Bx9Uqoa6M6M).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe came at the invitation of the Rector of Ternopil National Medical University, Professor Mykhaylo Korda, and Yevhen Blihar, the general director (chief physician) of the Ternopil Regional Clinical Hospital. The main purpose of our visit is to participate in the treatment of combatants undergoing treatment in Ternopil. We had free time in our schedule, so we were happy to read lectures on reconstructive surgery and share our own experience with Ukrainian doctors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 6, we had the opportunity to examine 15 patients who received combat injuries 1-2 months ago and needed treatment. They have various facial and body defects. On July 7, we performed an operation to reconstruct the nose of one of the defenders, who had a shrapnel wound on his face. We used rib cartilage for reconstruction. In addition, on July 8, we had the opportunity to examine the newly arrived wounded and work together with orthopaedists and traumatologists, so that, if necessary, we could cover the affected part of the body with soft tissues of the body and perform these surgical interventions,\u201d said Maryana Teufelsbauer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
