On June 25, 2021,\u00a0I.\u00a0Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University<\/strong>\u00a0became one of the founders of the\u00a0Eurasian Alliance for Global Health<\/strong>; its important tasks are building the capacity of academic and scientific potential of the members of this alliance. TNMU\u2019s equal partners in this alliance are Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Ukraine, as well as universities and public and global health institutions in Germany, Norway, Georgia, and Kazakhstan.<\/p>\n

This event is very important for development of public health in Ukraine and Ukraine\u2019s integration into international public and global health organizations, it took part as a result of TNMU\u2019s active participation in the\u00a0ERASMUS+ project \u201cBuilding Academic Capacity in Global Health in Eastern Europe \u2013 Central Asia Region (BACE)<\/strong>, which aims to develop and modernize learning programs in health care and environment, improve the governance of institutions of higher education and benefit strengthening of relations between institutions of higher education of Ukraine and other countries of the Eurasian continent and the world.<\/p>\n

At the first constituent meeting of the Eurasian Alliance for Global Health, Professor Mykhaylo Korda, the rector of TNMU, was elected a member of the\u00a0Board of the Eurasian Alliance for Global Health<\/strong>. Professor\u00a0Mykhaylo Korda<\/strong>, the rector of TNMU, praised the Concept and Charter of the Eurasian Alliance for Global Health, emphasised the success of TNMU in this area: the successful launch of educational and professional master\u2019s program at TNMU and graduation of the first masters of Public Health, the introduction of the discipline of Global Health into this program; he also outlined the prospects for development of scientific and educational potential of TNMU in public and global health through membership in the Eurasian Alliance for Global Health and participation in ERASMUS+ project \u201cBuilding academic opportunities in global health in Eastern Europe \u2013 Central Asia region\u201d.<\/p>\n

The meeting of the co-founders of the Eurasian Alliance for Global Health involved discussion and approval of the concept of the alliance and the agreement between the member organizations of the alliance; Professor\u00a0Arkadii Shulhai<\/strong>, the TNMU Vice-Rector for Science and Education, and Professor\u00a0Hanna Saturska,<\/strong>\u00a0the Head of the Department of Public Health and Health Management of TNMU, also joined the meeting.<\/p>\n

The representatives from all Allies discussed issues related to the SARS-CoV-2 virus coronavirus disease and vaccination in countries as well as the possibilities and ways to respond quickly and control the epidemiological situation in the participant countries.<\/p>\n

Hanna Saturska,<\/strong>\u00a0Professor of TNMU, reported on the situation in Ukraine on this issues.<\/p>\n

Representatives of the University of Bergen, Norway,\u00a0Bente Moen<\/strong>\u00a0and the Institute of Global Health, Georgia,\u00a0Heorhiy Shakarishvili<\/strong>, expanded on the concept and statute of the Eurasian Alliance for Global Health.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

During the discussion of the founding documents of the alliance, it was emphasized that currently most countries of the Eurasian continent do not have an established global role in health care on the world stage, and have not developed global academic health centres to generate and disseminate knowledge about global health challenges and decisions.<\/p>\n

It was also noted that the COVID-19 pandemic showed how unprepared the world was to effectively manage global health issues. These challenges require a truly concerted effort at the international level. This necessitates the creation of a common platform for academic institutions in the Eurasian region, which can help these countries to increase their professional competence in global health in order to establish themselves on the world stage.<\/p>\n

After discussing the concept of the alliance, the statute and the agreement between the member organizations of the consortium, Professor\u00a0Olaf Horstik<\/strong>\u00a0was elected the Chairman of the Eurasian Alliance for Global Health, the representative of the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health (Germany).<\/p>\n

Jamila Nabieva<\/strong>, the Project Coordinator, a representative of the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health (Germany), expressed support for the alliance and reported on further plans of participation in the ERASMUS+ project \u201cBuilding Academic Capacity in Global Health in Eastern Europe \u2013 Central Asia Region (BACE)\u201d.<\/p>\n
