On March 24-25, 2021, the students of the master\u2019s program in public health took part in the online 3rd<\/sup>\u00a0International Symposium of Young Researchers on Global Health, which took place in Berlin (Germany) and was organized by the Akkon University of Human Sciences. This university has been an international partner of I.\u00a0Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University for a long time already.<\/p>\n

The organizers of the event were Professor Timo Ulrichs, MD , Director of the Institute for Research in International Assistance (IRIA), Professor at the Akkon University of Human Sciences in Berlin and Dr. Gabi Feldman, Project Coordinator and Research Fellow of the IRIA, Akkon University of Human Sciences (Berlin). During the event the TNMU students and young scientists in Public Health specialties also presented the results of their research.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

TNMU was represented by:<\/p>\n

Ihor Stetsiuk<\/strong>\u00a0reported on \u201cPeculiar features of psycho-emotional state of cardiac surgery patients who have undergone minimally invasive intervention\u201d (academic supervisors Professor Terenda N.O., Associate Professor Petrashyk Yu.M.). He highlighted the quality of life of patients after minimally invasive cardiac surgery.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Viktor Reputa<\/strong>\u00a0in the presentation \u201cUnderstand COVID-19: collective immunity\u201d (academic supervisors Associate Professor Smirnova V.L., Associate Professor Lishtaba L.V.) described the mechanism of indirect protection of non-immune individuals in a particular population, as well as ways of its formation, including by vaccination. The report also considered the key concepts of collective immunity, as well as the main parameters that determine its threshold, i.e. the basic reproductive number (R0) and the effective reproductive number (Re \/ Rt); the trajectories of the outbreak of an infectious disease depending on the immune status of a particular cluster were analysed and the threats to the non-immune \u201cna\u00efve\u201d population from exposure to a new pathogen were presented, as well as the method of evaluation of the collective immunity threshold was considered.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The initiative to accelerate access to COVID-19 tools (ACT-Accelerator -Access to COVID-19 Tools) was considered, as well as the purpose and objectives of the Roadmap for introduction of vaccination against COVID-19 in Ukraine. The actual pace of the vaccination campaign in Ukraine and the probability of achieving collective immunity from COVID-19 in the near future were analysed.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The presentations of young scientists from Canada, Germany, Ghana, Iran, Uganda, the USA, Yemen, and Russia were very interesting. The presentations of all speakers were followed by discussions. The international scientific event ended with a discussion of reports and recommendations to young scientists during a panel discussion. The professors and experts of public health and global health organizations of the symposium partner countries were involved in it. Professor Anna Saturska, the Head of the Department of Public Health and Health Management, noted the scientific novelty and diversity of global health topics, which were covered by young scientists with great enthusiasm, creativity and new ideas to improve the health of the population on all continents.<\/p>\n

The representatives of TNMU had an opportunity to take part in the event according to the cooperation agreement between TNMU and the Akkon University of Human Sciences (Berlin, Germany).<\/p>\n
