Introduction of the institute of tutoring for students has been initiated in I.\u00a0Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University in order to improve students\u2019 knowledge and practical skills. A tutor is a mentor or assistant who helps and cares for others. Tutoring is an officially recognized component of British education and today is a matter of prestige for universities of Europe, the United States and Canada. In the world universities, self-education is one of the main components of university education, and tutoring is accompanying it.<\/p>\n

The main principle of tutoring is that the members of the student community help others in learning and self-education. Significant information is transmitted through trusted communication on equal footing with peers. The information transfer can be in the form of classes, seminars, events, talks, trainings, etc. This approach is quite effective and popular in the world, as it involves more trust. This principle helps create a consolidated student environment that shares common values \u200b\u200band strategies.<\/p>\n

Professor Petro Selskyi, the Dean of the International Students Faculty, told that the meaning of that project was that senior students who had educational experience and were aware of problems in learning, helped younger students to master the subjects and practical skills. \u201cTutoring, contrary to the mentoring program, which was implemented at the university three years ago, involves improvement of knowledge and development of self-education. Tutors can ask teachers for help to better explain and help understand issues and topics that are difficult for younger students. In cooperation with teachers, they decide on the form of delivering information to students so that they better get it. These can be online lectures or consultations. Tutors can also explain this material to younger students, if they have mastered it well,\u201d added Petro Romanovych.<\/p>\n

For this purpose a web platform will be created on the TNMU website, where all the necessary materials and educational videos will be posted. A Google form will also be developed, which will allow receiving feedback from students. Thus, the students can submit their suggestions, point out difficult topics and ask questions. According to the dean of the International Students Faculty, this will also help the institute of tutoring to work effectively. Petro Selskyi also said that this would be implemented and improved together with international students, and later it would involve Ukrainian students as well.<\/p>\n

The project involves specialists of the Dean\u2019s Office for International Students, Olena Pokryshko, Deputy Director of the Centre for Educational Work and Cultural Development, as well as students Prajval Gangappa Tippanavar and Mohamed Shumael Khan, who have significant experience in assisting younger students. Other senior students, who helped students in learning, will also join soon.<\/p>\n

A program of the topics the students can improve their knowledge has already been developed. It will be expanded according to the tutors\u2019 suggestions.<\/p>\n
