On February 25-27, 2021, the 18th<\/sup>\u00a0Hellenic Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry was held. The event was organized by the Hellenic Society of Medicinal Chemistry supported by the European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry and Medical Biology. The symposium is held annually for 35 years in Greece and is an important event for the world scientific community.<\/p>\n

The program of the 18th<\/sup>\u00a0\u00a0Hellenic Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry was divided into 10 sections: \u201cAt the boundary between medicinal chemistry and chemical biology\u201d (head of the section \u2013 Prof. Mikros Emmanuel); \u201cNovel targeted approaches for well-described pathologies\u201d (head of the section \u2013 Prof. Nikolaou Ioannis); \u201cStructure and simulations as catalysts for accelerated drug discovery\u201d (head of the section \u2013 Prof. Fousteris Manolis); \u201cA medicinal chemist glimpse in the arsenal of nature\u201d (head of the section \u2013 Prof. Zoidis Grigoris); \u201cNovel targeted approaches for well-described pathologies II\u201d (head of the section \u2013 Prof. Papanastasiou Ioannis); \u201cThe virtual toolkit of medicinal chemistry\u201d (head of the section \u2013 Prof. Tsantili Anna); \u201cTrends and advances in bioinorganics\u201d (head of the section \u2013 Prof. Myrianthopoulos Vasilios); \u201cNanotechnology and biophysics enabling development of novel therapeutics\u201d (head of the section \u2013 Prof. Dotsikas Ioannis); \u201cPharmaceutical Analysis \u201cOld bariers new leaps\u201d. The multifaceted role of pharmaceutical analysis in the new science\u201d (head of the section \u2013 Prof. Gikas Evangelos); \u201cCOVID apocalypse. The day after\u201d (head of the section \u2013 Dr Calogeropoulou Theodora).<\/p>\n

The speakers from around the world were invited for this event: Greece, Germany, Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Cyprus, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Poland, the Netherlands, Finland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Belarus, Turkey, India, China, the USA, Canada, and Ukraine. Only I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University represented Ukraine. Professor of the department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, the University of Athens (Greece), Anna Tsantili invited the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and the Department of Pharmacognosy and Medical Botany of TNMU to take part in the 18th<\/sup>\u00a0Hellenic Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry, because of a long-lasting cooperation<\/p>\n

Aliona Savych<\/strong>, a doctoral student of the Department of Pharmacognosy and Medical Botany represented I.\u00a0Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University at the 18th Hellenic Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry. She presented a report on \u201cPhytochemical and pharmacological research of new plant mixtures for treatment and prevention of type 2 diabetes mellitus, establishment of correlation between phytochemical composition and their pharmacodynamics\u201d (section A, medicinal chemist glimpse in the arsenal of nature, Section President Prof. Zoidis Grigoris), on phytochemical and pharmacological studies of herbal antidiabetic herbal medicinal products and correlations between biologically active substances and their pharmacodynamics. The results of the research are part of\u00a0Aliona Savych<\/strong>\u2019s doctoral thesis, Professor\u00a0Svitlana Marchyshyn,<\/strong>\u00a0the Head of the Department of Pharmacognosy and Medical Botany, an academic advisor.<\/p>\n

Professor Hadjipavlou-Litina Dimitra with a report on \u201cHybrids and Multitarget agents: A way to confront multifactorial diseases\u201d School of Pharmacy, Aristotle University, Greece<\/em><\/p>\n

Professor\u00a0Hadjipavlou-Litina Dimitra<\/strong>\u00a0(Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Aristotle University, Greece, Hirsha Index \u2013 49) has been cooperating with TNMU for many years and has developed joint publications with the researchers of the Department of Pharmacy. Lilia Lohoida, the Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry provided lectures on pharmaceutical chemistry under the program \u201cErasmus+ teaching\u201d at the University of Aristotle (Thessaloniki, Greece) in 2017.<\/p>\n

The researchers of the Departments of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacognosy and Medical Botany appreciate the invitation by the organizers of the 18th<\/sup>\u00a0Hellenic Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry and Professor Anna Tsantili and the opportunity to join the international symposium and improve research skills. The TNMU experts received participation certificates in the symposium.<\/p>\n
