On October 23, 2020 a meeting of Professor Mykhailo Korda, the Rector of TNMU, and Mykola Posokhov, the Head of the Department of Functional Neurosurgery of the Institute of Neurology, Psychiatry and Narcology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine (Kharkiv) took part at I.\u00a0Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University. The joint projects on the regenerative medicine in neurosurgery were agreed during the meeting.<\/p>\n

For a long time, Ternopil National Medical University a research laboratory for cultivation and study of stem cells has been operating. Today, cell therapy is an innovative, very promising method of treating diseases and injuries, which allows restoring damaged body tissues and organs through transplantation of new healthy cells \u2013 stem cells. They are widely used in treatment of severe diseases in children and adults, especially in cases of malignant blood diseases and a number of other hematopoietic disorders, i.e. leukemia, thalassemia, sickle cell disease, bone marrow failure, hereditary and acquired immunological defects, genetic diseases, and also to restore immunity after illness. The use of stem cells in neurology and neurosurgery is also promising.<\/p>\n

Mykola Posokhov, the Head of the Department of Functional Neurosurgery at the Institute of Neurology, Psychiatry and Narcology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine (Kharkiv), is highly experienced in using stem cells in neurosurgery. Thanks to his curing more than 100 patients got a second chance for a full life. \u201cThat is an effective treatment of patients with multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer and Parkinson diseases. Cells are usually selected from bone marrow, adipose tissue or nerve crest. Today, this method is a great alternative to traditional methods of treating severe diseases,\u201d Mykola Fedorovych said.<\/p>\n
