Denys Koshak, a PhD student at the Department of Disaster and Military Medicine of TNMU, taught the staff of the patrol service the fundamentals of first aid during five days. The training took place at the police department (24 Kotliarevskyi Street) of the State Traffic Police Unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Ternopil Region on September 28 \u2013 October 2, 2020.<\/p>\n

The management of the State Traffic Police Unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Ternopil Region asked the administration of TNMU to carry out classes on first aid. Our university has frequently organized similar courses for law enforcement authorities, so the university facilitated immediately. Denys Koshak, a PhD student at the Department of Disaster and Military Medicine was an instructor as a qualified expert to teach this course. The PhD student of the Department of Disaster and Military Medicine passed courses in first medical aid and pre-hospital care; he is a certified instructor and has the right to teach other people of different classes and professions. In addition, he is experienced in such training events.<\/p>\n

70 patrol officers trained during five days. The classes for each group lasted for more than 3 hours every day.<\/p>\n

All participants had the opportunity to develop their skills in first medical aid: basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation, hemostasis (as well as critical, venous, capillary, nodular), the necessary actions and assistance in various injuries, limb fractures, their immobilization, as well as bruises, stab and gunshot wounds). Moreover, the algorithm of actions in an accident (to move the victim properly, the sequence of assistance according to the protocol, cervical collar application) was developed. The participants learned the fundamentals of care for burns, frostbites, hyperthermia.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe patrol officers will use all the developed practical skills when providing first medical assistance before arrival of an emergency team, because they are already aware of actions according to the protocol that will benefit for providing assistance by emergency service\u201d, Denys Koshak said.<\/p>\n
