The event was devoted to the important multidisciplinary approaches of practical neonatology with the emphasis on the introduction of modern methods of diagnosis, treatment, care of prematurely born children with high level of evidence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/image001-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-40359\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/image001-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1056\" height=\"255\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At the invitation of Prof.<strong>\u00a0Jan Mazela<\/strong>\u00a0and Prof.\u00a0<strong>Ewa Helwich<\/strong>, organizers of the Neonatus 2019 Conference, Ternopil region was represented by neonatologists from I.\u00a0Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University and Ternopil Department of the Association of Neonatologists of Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/image003-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-40360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/image003-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"768\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Ternopil delegation \u201cNeonatus 2019\u201d neonatologists Klishch O.\u00a0V., Topchii\u00a0H.\u00a0V., Sarakhman N.\u00a0Ye., Ph.D. Sarapuk I.\u00a0M., Professors Pavlyshyn\u00a0H.\u00a0A., Ladyka N.\u00a0O., Pasiaka N.\u00a0V.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>At the 7<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0International Conference \u201cNeonatus 2019\u201d, the scientists of Ternopil National Medical University presented the results of the departmental scientific work\u00a0<strong>\u00abDevelopmental care and short-term outcomes in preterm infants\u00bb.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/image005-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-40361\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/image005-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Prof. H.\u00a0A.\u00a0Pavlyshyn presents the report \u201cDevelopmental care and short-term outcomes in preterm infants\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The conference agenda included a meeting with leading experts from America and Europe: Prof. Richard Polin (USA), Prof. Angelika Berger (Austria), Prof. Alan Lucas (USA), Prof. William Fox (USA), Prof. Yogen Singh (UK), Dr. Sinno Simons (Netherlands). The scholars discussed the peculiarities of early diagnosis, prevention of infectious pathology in newborns, current methods of use of surfactant therapy in premature infants, new approaches to the treatment of neonatal lung disease, primary pulmonary hypertension in infants with diaphragm hernia.<\/p>\n<p>Professor\u00a0<strong>Angelika Berger<\/strong>\u00a0(Austria) presented the modern management of antibiotic therapy in neonatal intensive care units. Today, antibiotics are long-term and widely used in intensive care units for the newborns, which not only increases the risk of antibiotic resistance, but also increases the individual risk of negative long-term consequences, such as the development of candidiasis in extremely preterm infants, necrotic enterocolitis, bronchial asthma, bronchopulmonary dysplasia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/image007.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-40362\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/image007.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"768\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Prof. H.\u00a0A.\u00a0Pavlyshyn, prof. Angelika Berger, Ph.D. Sarapuk I.\u00a0M.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Professor\u00a0<strong>Richard Polin (<\/strong>USA) emphasized the risk of hospital infections in neonatology with up to 100,000 deaths annually and high costs of treatment (USD 6.5 billion). Nosocomial infections are associated with adverse neurodevelopmental consequences. The major causative agents of catheter-associated infections are Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus-coagulase negative, Gram negative enterics, fungi. The issues of early diagnosis of catheter-associated, nosocomial infections and measures for their prevention were discussed.<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"347\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/image009.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-40363\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/image009.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"768\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<td width=\"326\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/image011-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-40364\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/image011-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"768\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>An interesting question was posed by Professor\u00a0<strong>Richard Polin<\/strong>\u00a0(USA) \u201cHow can bronchopulmonary dysplasia be prevented?\u201d Measures aimed at dysplasia risk reduction include avoidance of mechanical ventilation, early use of caffeine (from the delivery room), \u201cgentle\u201d resuscitation measures. The results of modern meta-analyzes show a higher incidence of necrotic enterocolitis, sepsis, retinopathy, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, chronic lung disease, mortality in premature infants fed with formula (cow\u2019s milk). Long-term consequences of artificial feeding include osteoporosis, frequent fractures of tubular bones, cardio-vascular disorders in adulthood, delayed cognitive development, decreased IQ. In the United States, more than 300 ICUs use infant formula (donor) to provide premature infants (over 40,000 infants), especially those who are extremely prematurely, with breast milk.<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"347\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/image017-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-40367\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/image017-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"768\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<td width=\"326\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/image019-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-40368\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/image019-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"768\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>The conference presented modern clinical recommendations on the use of surfactant and ventilation support in newborns (New guideline 2019), the latest methods of treatment of pulmonary hypertension in infants with diaphragm hernia, lung disease. Dr.<strong>\u00a0Judit Llevadias<\/strong>\u00a0(England) reported on the peculiarities of using ECMO in neonatology, with a number of possible adverse effects and complications, emphasized the attention of neonatologists to the correct choice of medicines \u2013 inotropes, vasopressors.<\/p>\n<p>Participation in the 7<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0International Scientific Conference \u201cNeonatus 2019\u201d provides an opportunity to improve the qualification and professional level in the field of neonatology, and to share experience in the care of prematurely born babies in Ukraine. At the same time, establishing and expanding personal contacts at the International Neonatology Conference will facilitate the development of international cooperation, creative communication and integration of the University into the global scientific space.
