The first Ukrainian International Scientific-Practical Conference \u201cErgotherapy: a new profession for the modern rehabilitation system in Ukraine\u201d was held in Kyiv on October 4-5, 2019, organized by the Ukrainian Society of Ergotherapists with the support of the National University of Physical Education and Sports of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the first international conference on ergotherapy in Ukraine\u2019s history was to raise the professional level of Ukrainian ergotherapists, as well as to increase the awareness of the purpose, opportunities and areas of ergotherapy professional activity among specialists in the field of physical and rehabilitation medicine, physical therapists, speech therapists and psychologists, social workers, and representatives of other related specialties. It should be noted that the Conference was approved by the World Federation of Ergotherapists.<\/p>\n

The Conference was attended by more than 400 participants, including representatives from different parts of the world (USA, Canada, Philippines, United Kingdom, Romania, Russia), as well as I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University staff, the Head of the Department of Physical Therapy, Ergotherapy and Physical Education, Professor\u00a0Daria Popovych<\/strong>\u00a0and Department Assistant\u00a0Bai Anastasia<\/strong>. The Conference agenda included the reports by physicians, physical therapists, ergotherapists and speech and language therapists.<\/p>\n

Prof. Popovych Daria participates in a roundtable on educational issues of the development of ergotherapy in Ukraine.<\/em><\/p>\n

A number of reports were devoted to the following directions: areas of professional expertise of ergotherapists; practical experience of ergotherapeutic interventions in neurology, pediatrics, geriatrics, inclusive education, use of basic and assistive technologies; work in interdisciplinary teams; education of ergotherapists and experience in the introduction of ergotherapy as a new profession in different countries of the world; training of clinical supervisors for ergotherapy.<\/p>\n

Within the framework of the Conference there was a festive presentation of the Ukrainian translation of the\u00a0Minimum standards of\u00a0 ergotherapists training<\/strong>\u00a0from the World Federation of Ergotherapists. Being a member of USET, Anastasia Bai also took part in the translation of the Standards.<\/p>\n

On behalf of the University, the participants expressed their sincere gratitude to the Vice President of the World Federation of Ergotherapists Samanta Shann and to the Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Society of Ergotherapists Olha Manhusheva for the development of ergotherapy in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Participation in the first Ukrainian International Scientific-Practical Conference \u201cErgotherapy: a new profession for the modern system of rehabilitation in Ukraine\u201d, organized by the Ukrainian Society of Ergotherapists, gives an opportunity to improve the qualification and professional level of ergotherapists; practical experience of ergotherapeutic interventions in neurology, pediatrics, geriatrics, inclusive education, use of basic and assistive technologies, as well as to get acquainted with the work of multidisciplinary teams in Ukraine. At the same time, establishing and expanding personal contacts at the global level will facilitate the development of international cooperation, creative communication and integration of the University into the global educational environment.<\/p>\n

The participants express their gratitude to the administration of I.\u00a0Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University for their support, assistance and opportunity to take part in the first International Scientific-Practical Conference on ergotherapy, as well as for the opportunity to participate in the discussion of issues concerning the development of educational process in ergotherapy in Ukrainian educational institutions.<\/p>\n
