The International ESMO Preceptorship on Gastric Cancer Program, dedicated to the issues of gastric cancer diagnosis and treatment, has been recently held in Barcelona (Spain).<\/p>\n

The event was organized by the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO), the world\u2019s second largest oncology association, bringing together more than 20,000 physicians and scientists in the field.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s program was attended by over 62 pathologists, oncologists and surgeons working on this issue in 30 countries in Europe and South America. Three Ukrainian representatives were invited to participate in the event.<\/p>\n

Leading European specialists from Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic and Germany became specially invited guests of ESMO Preceptorship on Colorectal Cancer.<\/p>\n

The issues of modern diagnostics of gastric cancer, chemotherapy, radiation and surgical strategies as well as interesting and controversial clinical cases were discussed within the framework of the Program.<\/p>\n

During the event, the Assistant of the Department of Oncology, Radiation Diagnostics and Therapy and Radiation Medicine of the\u00a0I.\u00a0Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University T.\u00a0Yu.\u00a0Uhliar<\/strong>\u00a0exchanged experience with leading European specialists.<\/p>\n

\u201cNew approaches to gastric cancer diagnosis and treatment were discussed during the event. Innovative ways of diagnosing of this pathology, the importance of histology and microsatellite instability in the choice of chemotherapy for these patients have been demonstrated. In addition, a lot of new and interesting information on immunotherapy for gastric cancer, the principles of radiation therapy was suggested. This is very useful for everyday teaching and clinical work. I will implement these new diagnostic and treatment algorithms in educational process at our university.
