In March 2018, Associate Professor of TSMU Department of Emergency Medical Care S.Y. Lypovetska took in two large annual congresses organized by European Society of Cardiology: Acute Cardiovascular Care Congress 2018 (3-5.03) in Milan and European Heart Rhythm Congress (18-20.03) in Barcelona.<\/p>\n

The meeting in Barcelona \u200b\u200bupdated the recommendations for the management of patients with syncope states. The main emphasis was placed on timely decisions concerning the patients\u2019 risk, mandatory screening coupled with carotid sinus massage under ECG and blood pressure monitoring in patients over 40 years of age to detect latent reflex syncope. Additional issues discussed were the introduction of video monitoring for spontaneous events to verify syncope states and increased use of loop recorders for long-term ECG monitoring.<\/p>\n

Workshops during the congress centered on the catheter ablation, implantation of loop recorders and cardioversion-defibrillators and similar issues. Leading European clinics broadcast live sessions of surgical interventions.<\/p>\n

Researchers from Munich, Germany presented a pilot project focused on rapid identification of sudden cardiac deaths and early cardiopulmonary resuscitation. It involves large-scale training of the population and the use of drones carrying automatic external defibrillators that fly around the city round-the-clock and arrive at the signal of emergency services within a few minutes.<\/p>\n

The key issues discussed during the Acute Cardiovascular Care Congress in Milan included new possibilities of thrombolysis in acute coronary syndrome, intervention reperfusion models, non-invasive and invasive hemodynamic support, new directions of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, new oral anticoagulants for acute coronary syndrome, and counterversion issues for the treatment of acute heart failure.<\/p>\n

The workshops for young cardiologists included classes on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, renal replacement therapy and implantation of cardioverter defibrillators.<\/p>\n
