Victor Hetmanchuk, Chairman of the Canada Ukraine Foundation (CUF) on February 24, 2017 met with rector of Ternopil State Medical University, Dr. Korda to develop areas of cooperation.<\/p>\n

In particular, the discussion focused on networking with Registered Nurses\u2019 Association of Ontario in Canada and initializing a joint project to create nursing care guidelines.<\/p>\n

Victor Hetmanchuk noted that Registered Nurses\u2019 Association of Ontario is looking for partners in Ukraine to share their knowledge and encourage nurses to fully participate in the formulation and provision of health services while adhering to world standards. The main focus of professional nursing activities is evidence-based medicine. This is extremely important for Ukraine during the transition of its healthcare system to insurance medicine. This ensures that the patient receives high quality service, and the nurse is protected if acting in accordance with approved guidelines.<\/p>\n

TSMU Rector, Dr. Korda pointed out that last year the university has successfully implemented a joint Ukrainian-Canadian project and is ready to continue its cooperation with universities, NGOs and professional associations in Canada.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, currently in Ukraine there are no guidelines on nursing care. To introduce them, first they need to be tested and adjusted. Registered Nurses\u2019 Association of Ontario will help us in this. For his part, Victor Hetmanchuk assured us that his foundation will help to create application form and provide financial help for the early stages of the project. Representatives of Registered Nurses Association of Ontario will come to Ukraine to monitor work of nurses in our hospitals, give lectures and share their know-how.<\/p>\n

Today, there is a regional association of nurses in every region of our country, but their functions are different from those of a similar organization in Ontario. For example, a Canadian organization might study market needs, or give advice to educational institutions how to train nurses to meet expectations when performing their professional duties, \u201c- said the director of the institute of nursing Svitlana Yastremska.<\/p>\n

The following guidelines of nursing care will be covered in this project: \u201cAssessment and management of foot ulcers for people with Type 2 diabetes,\u201d \u201cPrimary prevention of obesity\u201d, \u201cLong-term patient care\u201d, \u201cManagement of chronic diseases\u201d, \u201cPain control\u201d, and \u201cAssessment of quality of life.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
