A few days ago scientists of the Pediatrics Department of TSMU Institute of postgraduate education organized a scientific conference on Problems of clinical pathology in children: a closer look at the \u201cseasonal\u201d issues at the Ternopil Regional Clinical Hospital. The aim of this conference was to emphasize for pediatricians, general practitioners and family medicine doctors diagnostic criteria and the correct methods of medical care of diseases that are very common in the summer.<\/p>\n

Professor N. Banadyha (Chair of the Pediatrics Department) opened the conference with a lecture \u201cThe manifestations of cutaneous syndrome, allergic or pseudo allergic pathology, worm infestations, or parasites? Diagnosis and emergency care \u201c. She highlighted the issues of epidemiology, prevalence, of worm infestations and allergic reactions. She also pointed to errors in the diagnosis of these diseases. She also presented existing guidelines for emergency aid and duration of treatment for children with this diagnosis.<\/p>\n

The next presentation \u201cLyme Disease: Myth or Reality?\u201d \u00a0was given by Associate Professor of Pediatrics I. Rohalskyi. He outlined ongoing research, initiated with the support of Ternopil State Medical University in September 2015 testing foresters from around the Ternopil Region and the city of Ternopil. Today is also important to study this pathology among children living near forests and who were bitten by ticks. The speaker talked about stages of the disease, their duration and the damage the disease\u00a0 wrecks on the nervous system, joints and cardiovascular systems. He presented methods and means of protection which should be used \u00a0if there is potential contact with ticks. The presentation also introduced a new scheme for prevention and treatment of Lyme disease, which was proposed on 10-11 June 2016 at the VI European conference on problems of borreliosis, held in Helsinki.<\/p>\n

The conference continued with a presentation titled \u201cThe modern view on etiology, diagnosis and treatment of acute intestinal infections in evidence-based medicine\u201d by Assistant Professor of Pediatrics O. Dutchak. \u00a0She stressed the etiological factors and problems of late hospitalization of patients, and drew attention to the difficulty of diagnosis and to medications used on pre- and hospital stages. The speaker talked about symptomatic treatment on early stages of the disease.<\/p>\n

In conclusion, Professor N. Banadyha spoke about \u201cThe use of probiotics in pediatrics from the position of evidence-based medicine.\u201d In today\u2019s market there are many tools for correction of intestinal microflora, but they all have different State registration. She drew attention to different supplements, which is bacteria and the medium they contain, and their therapeutic safety. Based on these factors she offered an algorithm for prescribing of probiotics in different clinical situations.<\/p>\n
