On February 3-4, 2025, a training session titled “Clinical Scenarios and Their Assessment: OSCE Preparation”<\/em> took place in Lviv, with participation from faculty members of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University.<\/strong> The event was organized as part of the Ukraine-Switzerland Medical Education Development Project<\/strong>, implemented by the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute,<\/strong> with funding from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

TNMU was represented by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nataliia Yarema<\/strong>, Associate Professor of the Pediatrics with Pediatric Surgery Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oksana Sydorenko<\/strong>, Associate Professor of the Emergency Medical Care Department,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andrii Burak<\/strong>, Associate Professor of the Surgery No. 1 with Urology and Minimally Invasive Surgery Department,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iryna Borovyk<\/strong>, Associate Professor of the Therapy and Family Medicine Department,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iryna Savchenko<\/strong>, Associate Professor of the Internal Medicine No. 1 Department,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The training aimed to enhance the skills of medical educators in organizing and conducting Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE).<\/strong> Participants learned to design clinical scenarios, evaluate their effectiveness, and refine methods for assessing students’ clinical and communication competencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The session was led by Dmytro Konkow<\/strong>, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Pyrohov Vinnytsia National Medical University Professor, and an expert in simulation-based medical education.<\/strong> Under his guidance, participants received practical insights into developing clinical scenarios, utilizing standardized and virtual patients,<\/strong> and identifying and addressing challenges at all OSCE preparation and implementation stages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Training Highlights<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 1:<\/strong> Introduction to the principles of OSCE station development. Participants presented their scenarios, explored implementation strategies, and received expert feedback. Interactive presentations and hands-on exercises emphasized key aspects of organizing practical clinical stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 2:<\/strong> Analysis of created scenarios, development of assessment criteria for clinical and communication competencies, and adaptation of scenarios to real-world challenges. The training concluded with a debriefing discussion<\/strong>, where participants reviewed challenges and formulated practical recommendations for improving OSCE implementation in medical institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most valuable outcomes of the event was the exchange of experiences<\/strong> between faculty members from various medical universities, including Bo<\/strong>h<\/strong>omolets National Medical University, T<\/strong>ernopil <\/strong>N<\/strong>ational <\/strong>M<\/strong>edical <\/strong>U<\/strong>niversity<\/strong>, Uzhhorod National University, and Zaporizhzhia State Medical University.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants highlighted the benefits of team collaboration<\/strong>, which enabled them to refine diverse scenarios. Discussing different approaches to addressing challenges in preparing students for OSCE was particularly valuable.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
