On March 4-5, 2025, the second training session, “Clinical Scenarios and Their Assessment. Preparation for OSCE,” took place in Lviv. The event was organized within the framework of the Ukrainian-Swiss project “Development of Medical Education in Ukraine”<\/strong> and was attended by faculty members from I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

TNMU was represented by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nadiia Makarchuk<\/strong>, Assistant Professor of the Department of Medical Rehabilitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Svitlana Nykytiuk<\/strong>, Professor of the Department of Pediatric Diseases and Pediatric Surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Larysa Martyniuk<\/strong>, Associate Professor of the Department of Emergency Medical Care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Olha Kostiv<\/strong>, Associate Professor of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Olena Oleksiak<\/strong>, Assistant Professor of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology No.1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main goal of the training was to enhance the skills<\/strong> of medical educators in developing, analyzing, and assessing<\/strong> clinical scenarios, as well as improving evaluation methods<\/strong> for students’ clinical and communication competencies. This, in turn, contributes to higher quality OSCE<\/strong> (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) implementation in Ukrainian medical universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expert Trainer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The training was conducted by Dmytro Konkov<\/strong>, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, and Secretary of the Ukrainian Association of Medical Educational Simulation Technologies<\/strong>. He is also a co-author of educational manuals and methodological guidelines, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Organization and Conducting of OSCE”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Establishing a Simulation Center: Principles and Guidelines”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Training Program<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 1 \u2013 Developing Clinical Scenarios<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants:
\u2714 Learned the principles of OSCE clinical station design.
\u2714 Created their examination scenarios.
\u2714 Studied strategies for implementation.
\u2714 Received expert feedback on their materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through interactive presentations and practical exercises<\/strong>, key aspects of effective OSCE station organization were explored, helping participants structure their knowledge and acquire new competencies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 2 \u2013 Assessment and Improvement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants:
\u2714 Analyzed the developed clinical scenarios.
\u2714 Created a system for assessing clinical and communication skills.
\u2714 Refined their scenarios considering real-world OSCE challenges.
\u2714 Engaged in a debriefing discussion<\/strong> to address problematic issues and formulate recommendations for improving OSCE processes at their universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Impact and Future Implementation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The training provided medical educators with valuable tools and methodologies<\/strong> that can be adapted to their institutions. This contributes to standardizing OSCE preparation and implementation<\/strong> across Ukraine, ensuring more objective student assessments<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
