As part of Mental Health Awareness Month<\/strong>, on May 19, 2025<\/strong>, specialists from the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology, and Medical Psychology at TNMU organized a career guidance meeting<\/strong> for students who are planning their future studies and career choices \u2014 and it turned out to be a deeply meaningful experience. The meeting took place at the department itself, and the conversation with the students was led by Associate Professor Olena Smashna<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discussion covered:<\/p>\n\n\n

    \n
  • Who is a psychotherapist<\/strong>?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • How do they differ from a psychologist<\/strong> or a psychiatrist<\/strong>?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • How do modern mental health professionals work \u2014 without stereotypes, stigma, or \u201cdiagnosis-phobia\u201d?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n

    Clinical case examples were shared to illustrate what psychotherapy looks like in practice and how to differentiate between depression<\/strong>, anxiety<\/strong>, and burnout<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The participants also learned about the educational paths to becoming a psychologist<\/strong>, psychotherapist<\/strong>, or psychiatrist<\/strong> \u2014 where to begin, what the journey looks like, and the variety of therapeutic approaches available (CBT, psychoanalysis, humanistic therapy, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \u2757We also debunked several common myths<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n

      \n
    • \u201cPsychiatrists only prescribe medication\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • \u201cYou only go to a psychotherapist if you\u2019ve had serious trauma\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • \u201cPsychologists just give advice\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n

      Everyone left the meeting with a better understanding of themselves and renewed inspiration to explore the field of mental health<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
