On June 25, 2025, a workshop \u201cHyperinflammatory Syndromes in the Practice of Pediatric Specialists\u201d<\/em> was held at the premises of Ternopil Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was organized by the Department of Pediatrics with the Pediatric Surgery of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants included faculty from the Department of Pediatrics with Pediatric Surgery and the Department of Pediatrics No. 2 of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, physicians of various specialties from the Ternopil Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital, pediatricians, and pediatric infectious disease specialists from Ternopil City Hospital No. 2. The workshop featured and discussed ten scientific presentations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The participants were welcomed by Volodymyr Semerez, General Director of the Ternopil Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital, and Professor Oksana Boyarchuk, Head of the Department of Pediatrics with Pediatric Surgery of TNMU. They emphasized the relevance of the workshop topic, the importance of the event, and the prospects for further collaboration between the university\u2019s academic community and the hospital\u2019s staff in organizing future scientific forums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event opened with an introductory report by Olha Dyvonyak, Head of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Department of Ternopil City Communal Hospital No. 2. She presented clinical cases of three children from one family who were treated in the infectious diseases unit, described the clinical course, examination results, and treatment of suspected hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Olha Panchenko, a physician at the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care of the Ternopil Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital, delivered a report on the course of the illness, diagnosis, and treatment of the third child\u2014a one-year-old boy transferred to the ICU from the city hospital. Suspected of having a primary immunodeficiency with immune dysregulation, possibly X-linked lymphoproliferative syndrome, the child was referred for further diagnosis and treatment to the National Children’s Specialized Hospital “Okhmatdyt” in Kyiv.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Oksana Boyarchuk shared information about the child\u2019s treatment at Okhmatdyt, including examination results and therapies used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Associate Professor Tetiana Hariian presented on X-linked lymphoproliferative syndrome (Duncan syndrome), its etiology and clinical features, and focused on the pathogenesis of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Associate Professor Nataliia Shcherbatiuk gave a talk titled \u201cHemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis: Diagnostic Criteria and Care\u201d<\/em>, covering key clinical signs and current treatment protocols for HLH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In another presentation, Professor Oksana Boyarchuk analyzed the clinical progression, diagnostic dynamics, and treatment of three pediatric cases of HLH and provided key takeaways for physicians to help identify this condition in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also presented a case of a three-year-old boy diagnosed with APECED syndrome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Associate Professor Liubov Volianska shared insights on systemic inflammatory syndrome, discussed pathogenic models, and outlined diagnostic criteria for different manifestations such as ARDS, CRS, CSS, MIS-C, and MAS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Associate Professor Svitlana Nykytiuk delivered a compelling presentation titled \u201cAPECED: Clinical Manifestations and the Course of COVID-19 in Patients.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants also heard a report by Associate Professor Kateryna Kozak of the Department of Pediatrics No. 2 on hyperinflammation markers in COVID-19 and MIS-C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants completed a test, received certificates, and exchanged thoughts and feedback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
