On March 2, 2026, fifth-year students of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Pharmacy, as part of the elective course \u201cIndustrial Practice in the Specialization \u2018Pharmaceutical Chemistry\u2019,\u201d<\/strong> made an educational visit to the Ternopil Research Forensic Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The laboratory complex consists of two parts: the Department for the Examination of Materials, Substances, and Products<\/strong> and the Sector of Biological Research and Records<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Employees of the Department for the Examination of Materials, Substances, and Products introduced the VFF-502 group students<\/strong> and Associate Professor Tetiana Kucher<\/strong> to the specifics of conducting forensic examinations and expert studies in the areas of expertise of this unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the tour, the visitors became acquainted with the main types of forensic examinations conducted in the department and with modern\u00a0physico-chemical methods for analyzing materials, substances, and products<\/strong>\u00a0in<\/span> forensic practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the laboratory complex, future pharmacists received information on the key stages of planning forensic examinations in accordance with procedural requirements, the specifics of sample preparation, and methods for purifying and preparing objects for analysis. Particular attention was paid to the regulatory and legal aspects of conducting forensic examinations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the laboratories of spectral and physico-chemical research, students learned more about the methodology of performing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

molecular spectroscopic analysis in the infrared, ultraviolet, and visible ranges<\/strong>;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

gas chromatography with mass-selective detection<\/strong>;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

X-ray fluorescence analysis<\/strong>;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

microscopic examination of plant-origin substances<\/strong>;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

quantitative determination of components using gas chromatography<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The knowledge gained helped deepen students\u2019 understanding of the potential of modern physico-chemical analytical methods in\u00a0forensic expertise<\/strong>\u00a0and their practical importance to<\/span> the pharmaceutical sector<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The work of the Sector of Biological Research and Records<\/strong> represents a systematic response of the state to the unprecedented challenges of modern times and the significant increase in the volume of forensic work. In particular, this concerns the urgent need for prompt and reliable identification of the bodies of fallen military personnel and civilians<\/strong> who became victims of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The modern DNA laboratory<\/strong> is equipped with high-tech equipment that significantly reduces the time required to analyze biological materials collected at crime scenes. This increases the efficiency of investigations, facilitates the rapid solving of crimes, and optimizes forensic examinations. At the same time, the implementation of the latest molecular genetic technologies<\/strong> considerably accelerates the process of identifying deceased and missing persons, which has not only legal but also significant humanitarian importance for society<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
