For students of the \u201cParamedic\u201d specialty at Ternopil National Medical University, final classes in the discipline \u201cEmergency Medicine and Medical Response in Mass Casualty Incidents\u201d are ongoing. According to the curriculum, these classes are organized by instructors in the form of comprehensive training exercises simulating a mass casualty event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants are divided into emergency medical service (EMS) response teams, which are involved in providing emergency care in accordance with the Order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine dated September 24, 2020, No. 2179. During the training, a worst-case scenario is simulated, where there are many victims and limited EMS resources. A large number of role players are involved in the exercises, with realistic injury simulation applied to them. These participants are mostly staff members of the Department of Emergency and Simulation Medicine, as well as the Simulation Training Center, who oversee the actions of the future paramedics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of the training, a thorough debriefing is conducted, during which effective actions of the paramedics are identified and areas for improvement are discussed. To enhance learning outcomes, paramedics can use a specially prepared manual \u201cOrganization and Provision of Emergency Medical Care in Mass Casualty Incidents.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The comprehensive training demonstrated the significant emotional and physical strain on paramedics, as well as their diligence and responsibility in performing actions aimed at saving the lives of as many victims as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is hoped that the knowledge and skills acquired will become an important foundation for the effective practical work of future paramedics in today\u2019s challenging world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
