On April 2, 2026, a technical meeting \u201cStrengthening the Capacity of Primary Health Care Professionals through Cooperation with Medical Universities\u201d<\/em> was held in Kyiv with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was attended by representatives of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University: Vice-Rector for Science and Education, Professor Arkadii Shulhai; Director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Nursing, Associate Professor Svitlana Danchak; Head of the Department of Therapy and Family Medicine of the Postgraduate Education Faculty, Professor Marian Hrebenyk; and Head of the Department of Therapy and Family Medicine, Professor Liliia Babinets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the event, the TNMU team actively participated in discussions on key issues of postgraduate education and continuous professional development for both physicians and primary health care nurses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the panel discussion \u201cPostgraduate Education through Advanced Training and Continuous Professional Development of Primary Health Care Physicians and Nurses: Current Challenges and Prospects,\u201d<\/em> Professor Marian Hrebenyk presented the university\u2019s approaches and vision for training primary care physicians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Svitlana Danchak, Director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Nursing at TNMU, emphasized the growing role of nurses in the primary health care system amid modern challenges, particularly the need to expand their competencies in the prevention, early detection, and management of chronic noncommunicable diseases. In this context, the TNMU Institute of Nursing’s experience in implementing six WHO-supported training programs was presented. These programs are aimed at preparing primary care nurses to work in accordance with the PEN (Package of Essential Noncommunicable Disease Interventions) approach, which covers prevention, early detection, and management of noncommunicable diseases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The participation of TNMU representatives in the event confirms the university\u2019s active role in implementing international standards for medical education and in developing primary health care in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
