Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University<\/strong>, including <strong>Vice-Rector for Research Oleksandra Oleshchuk<\/strong>, <strong>Head of the Department of Internal Medicine No. 3 Liliia Martyniuk<\/strong>, <strong>Head of the Department of Children\u2019s Diseases with Pediatric Surgery Oksana Boiarchuk<\/strong>, and <strong>Associate Professors of the Department of Emergency Medicine Larysa Martyniuk and Sofiia Lypovetska<\/strong>, participated in the <strong>11th McMaster International Review Course in Internal Medicine (MIRCIM)<\/strong> held on <strong>May 7\u20139, 2026<\/strong>, in <strong>Krak\u00f3w, Republic of Poland<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\" wp-block-image size-large eplus-wrapper\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"691\" height=\"460\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-691x460.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-185193\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-691x460.jpg 691w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-203x135.jpg 203w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-1536x1023.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 691px) 100vw, 691px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\"><strong>MIRCIM 2026<\/strong> is one of the leading international educational and scientific events in internal medicine, bringing together experts from around the world to discuss contemporary approaches to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of internal diseases, grounded in <strong>evidence-based medicine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">The conference was founded and organized by:<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\" wp-block-list eplus-wrapper eplus-styles-uid-024cf5\">\n<li class=\" eplus-wrapper\">the <strong>Polish Institute for Evidence-Based Medicine (PIEBM)<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\" eplus-wrapper\"><strong>McMaster University<\/strong> (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">Co-organizers of the event included:<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\" wp-block-list eplus-wrapper eplus-styles-uid-9108e0\">\n<li class=\" eplus-wrapper\">the <strong>International Society of Internal Medicine<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\" eplus-wrapper\">the <strong>Jagiellonian University Medical College<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">The conference program covered a broad range of current clinical medicine topics, as well as modern applications of <strong>artificial intelligence in healthcare<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\" wp-block-image size-large eplus-wrapper\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"690\" height=\"460\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-123-690x460.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-185194\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-123-690x460.jpg 690w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-123-203x135.jpg 203w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-123-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-123-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-123.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">Within the <strong>cardiology sessions<\/strong>, considerable attention was devoted to the latest recommendations of the <strong>European Society of Cardiology<\/strong> concerning the management of patients with <strong>myocarditis, pericarditis, valvular heart disease, atrial fibrillation, and ischemic heart disease<\/strong>. Particularly relevant were presentations on optimizing <strong>lipid-lowering therapy<\/strong>, selecting appropriate <strong>antiarrhythmic treatment<\/strong>, and contemporary approaches to <strong>cardiovascular risk stratification<\/strong>. Special emphasis was also placed on managing patients with <strong>cardiovascular diseases in the context of multimorbidity<\/strong>, a highly significant issue given the aging population and increasing prevalence of coexisting conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\" wp-block-image size-large eplus-wrapper\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"690\" height=\"460\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-22-690x460.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-185198\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-22-690x460.jpg 690w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-22-203x135.jpg 203w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-22-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-22-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-22.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">The <strong>nephrology sessions<\/strong> focused on recent advances in the management of <strong>chronic kidney disease<\/strong>, emerging <strong>nephroprotective therapies<\/strong>, nephrotoxicity associated with modern oncological treatments, the care of <strong>pregnant patients with renal disorders<\/strong>, and the role of <strong>genetic testing in kidney diseases<\/strong>. Presentations addressing the intersection of <strong>hyperglycemia and chronic kidney disease<\/strong>, as well as modern approaches to the treatment of <strong>lupus nephritis<\/strong>, were of particular interest. These findings are especially relevant to internists and endocrinologists due to the growing prevalence of <strong>cardiorenal-metabolic syndrome<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\" wp-block-image size-large eplus-wrapper\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"345\" height=\"460\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-2-345x460.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-185199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-2-345x460.jpeg 345w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-2-101x135.jpeg 101w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-2-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-2.jpeg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 345px) 100vw, 345px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">During the <strong>rheumatology sessions<\/strong>, participants discussed current guidelines for managing patients with <strong>rheumatoid arthritis, Sj\u00f6gren\u2019s syndrome, systemic vasculitis, axial spondyloarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and osteoporosis<\/strong>. Special attention was paid to the role of <strong>artificial intelligence in rheumatology<\/strong>, to innovative opportunities for early diagnosis of autoimmune diseases, and to the detection of <strong>interstitial lung involvement in systemic rheumatic disorders<\/strong>. The clinical algorithms and practical recommendations presented are highly relevant for the multidisciplinary management of patients with systemic connective tissue diseases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">The <strong>endocrinology and diabetology sessions<\/strong> offered valuable insights into contemporary approaches to diagnosing and treating <strong>primary aldosteronism, hypercortisolism, type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus, prediabetes, and obesity<\/strong>. Particular emphasis was placed on the use of <strong>GLP-1 receptor agonists in multimorbid patients<\/strong>, highlighting benefits that extend beyond glycemic control to include <strong>cardioprotective and nephroprotective effects<\/strong>. International consensus statements on diabetes management, therapy personalization, treatment strategies for older adults, and the importance of <strong>patient phenotyping<\/strong> in therapeutic decision-making were also extensively discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\" wp-block-image size-large eplus-wrapper\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"345\" height=\"460\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-3-345x460.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-185200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-3-345x460.jpeg 345w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-3-101x135.jpeg 101w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-3-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/mircim-3.jpeg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 345px) 100vw, 345px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">Additional sessions addressed important topics in <strong>multimorbidity, intensive care medicine, infectious diseases, antibiotic resistance, respiratory pathology, and the management of critical conditions<\/strong>. Topics included contemporary approaches to <strong>respiratory support, sepsis management, water-electrolyte imbalance<\/strong>, and updated international <span>vaccination recommendations<\/span><strong> for patients with severe comorbidities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">Particularly valuable were the <strong>interactive discussions, clinical case analyses, and opportunities for direct dialogue with leading international experts<\/strong>. Participation in the conference enabled TNMU representatives to familiarize themselves with the latest international clinical guidelines, modern approaches to managing patients with comorbid conditions, and emerging directions in <strong>personalized medicine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">A special congress <span>on\u00a0<strong>artificial intelligence in medicine<\/strong>\u00a0was also organized within\u00a0<\/span>the conference. Topics included the application of AI in <strong>cardiology, rheumatology, nephrology, oncology, medical education, medical statistics, and scientific publishing<\/strong>. Discussions focused on the ethical use of AI, algorithm transparency, trust in AI technologies, regulatory considerations, and the integration of AI into clinical practice. Special attention was given to the role of <strong>generative artificial intelligence in evidence-based medicine, clinical research, and medical information systems<\/strong>. These topics are of exceptional relevance in modern healthcare and offer new opportunities to improve diagnostic accuracy, predictive modeling, and personalized treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\" wp-block-image size-large eplus-wrapper\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"690\" height=\"460\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/med_6304-690x460.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-185195\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/med_6304-690x460.jpg 690w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/med_6304-202x135.jpg 202w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/med_6304-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/med_6304.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">TNMU faculty members, students enrolled in professional and research programs, and medical interns had the opportunity to attend the lectures and scientific discussions virtually on May 8 via the online platform. Access was kindly provided by the conference organizers and the <em>emb.one<\/em> project.<br \/><br \/><br \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\" wp-block-image size-large eplus-wrapper\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"690\" height=\"460\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/med_6326-690x460.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-185196\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/med_6326-690x460.jpg 690w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/med_6326-202x135.jpg 202w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/med_6326-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/med_6326.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">The TNMU delegation also participated in an <strong>Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) Methodology Workshop<\/strong> as part of the <strong>Poland\u2013Ukraine Partnership for Medical Education Development<\/strong>, dedicated to updating the internal medicine textbook <strong>Empendium<\/strong>, which serves as a core medical reference in many European countries, Canada, and beyond. The textbook provides up-to-date clinical guidelines, diagnostic and treatment algorithms, and is fully grounded in the principles of evidence-based medicine. Its importance lies in providing only verified, up-to-date information in line with international clinical recommendations. Importantly, the content can be adapted to align with national clinical protocols by experienced Ukrainian editors.
