Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, consisting of Professor Olha Fedortsiv of the Department of Pediatric Diseases with Pediatric Surgery and Associate Professor Emilia Burbela of the same department, participated in the European Congress on Multiculturalism in Medicine and Health Sciences, held in Szczecin, Poland, on May 25\u201328, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\" wp-block-image size-large eplus-wrapper\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"690\" height=\"460\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/mcm_dzien1-133-690x460.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-187486\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/mcm_dzien1-133-690x460.jpg 690w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/mcm_dzien1-133-202x135.jpg 202w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/mcm_dzien1-133-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/mcm_dzien1-133.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-paragraph\">The Congress was organized in a hybrid format within the framework of the Erasmus+ project <em>\u201cMultiCultiMed \u2013 Multicultural Education for Medical and Health Sciences Students\u201d<\/em> (2024-1-PL01-KA220-HED-000251323). A total of 404 participants from 19 countries registered for the event, including 104 attendees who participated on-site. The Congress featured 36 scientific presentations from various European Union countries. In the Young Scientists Section, 27 poster presentations competed for awards, including research projects prepared by fifth-year medical students from our university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\" wp-block-image size-large eplus-wrapper\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"690\" height=\"460\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/mcm_dzien1-136-690x460.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-187487\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/mcm_dzien1-136-690x460.jpg 690w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/mcm_dzien1-136-202x135.jpg 202w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/mcm_dzien1-136-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/mcm_dzien1-136.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-paragraph\">Professor Olha Fedortsiv represented both Ukraine and TNMU as a member of the project consortium on multiculturalism and as the university\u2019s principal contact person. She also served as a member of the jury for the Young Scientists Section. During the plenary session, Professor Fedortsiv delivered a presentation entitled <em>\u201cProblemy zwi\u0105zane ze szczepieniami dzieci w czasie wojny\u201d<\/em> (\u201cProblems Related to Childhood Vaccination During Wartime\u201d). Associate Professor Emilia Burbela presented <em>\u201cCultural Barriers in Pediatric Emergency Care: Communication, Trust, and Clinical Decision-Making through EPALS Simulation-Based Training.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\" wp-block-image size-large eplus-wrapper\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"690\" height=\"460\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/mcm_dzien2-169-690x460.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-187488\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/mcm_dzien2-169-690x460.jpg 690w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/mcm_dzien2-169-202x135.jpg 202w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/mcm_dzien2-169-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/mcm_dzien2-169.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-paragraph\">Students and young researchers delivered their presentations in both online and in-person formats. Their work was evaluated by a jury consisting of Professor Beata Karakiewicz (Pomeranian Medical University, Szczecin) and Professor Olha Fedortsiv (I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University). The online poster presentation prepared by TNMU students Mariia Solomakina and Sofiia Berehuliak received high praise from the jury and was awarded second place among the young researchers\u2019 presentations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-paragraph\">Representatives of European universities that have already incorporated multicultural principles into their educational programs shared their experiences and approaches to integrating multiculturalism into the training of physicians and nurses, patient care and treatment, and healthcare professionals\u2019 daily practice in order to improve the quality of healthcare services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\" wp-block-image size-large eplus-wrapper\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"690\" height=\"460\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/mcm_dzien2-237-690x460.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-187489\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/mcm_dzien2-237-690x460.jpg 690w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/mcm_dzien2-237-202x135.jpg 202w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/mcm_dzien2-237-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/mcm_dzien2-237.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-paragraph\">Participants discussed key challenges encountered in caring for patients and newborns from diverse cultural backgrounds. Particular attention was paid to communication barriers, differing perceptions of pregnancy and childbirth, illness and the human body, the influence of religion on medical decision-making, and inequalities in access to healthcare. Speakers emphasized that multiculturalism has become an increasingly prominent feature of contemporary European society, reflecting recent migration trends and the growing demographic significance of foreign residents. This transformation has important implications for healthcare systems, which are expected to adapt their services to diverse linguistic, cultural, and social needs while maintaining equity, accessibility, and high-quality care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\" wp-block-image size-large eplus-wrapper\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"345\" height=\"460\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/yzobrazhenye_viber_2026-06-14_20-55-03-244-345x460.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-187490\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/yzobrazhenye_viber_2026-06-14_20-55-03-244-345x460.jpg 345w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/yzobrazhenye_viber_2026-06-14_20-55-03-244-101x135.jpg 101w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/yzobrazhenye_viber_2026-06-14_20-55-03-244.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 345px) 100vw, 345px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-paragraph\">As part of the Congress, participants attended workshops entitled <em>\u201cBalancing Values: Human Rights in Multicultural Nursing Practice\u201d<\/em> (Cyprus University of Technology), <em>\u201cMulticultural Perspectives on Physiological and Functional Ageing: Geriatric Simulation,\u201d<\/em> and <em>\u201cMulticultural Approaches to Physiological and Functional Ageing: Geriatric Simulation\u201d<\/em> (Pomeranian Medical University, Poland). Participants also discussed the integration of the Ukrainian medical academic community with educators and researchers from the European Union to facilitate the exchange of experience in addressing complex social challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\" wp-block-image size-large eplus-wrapper\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"345\" height=\"460\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/yzobrazhenye_viber_2026-06-14_20-56-35-145-345x460.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-187491\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/yzobrazhenye_viber_2026-06-14_20-56-35-145-345x460.jpg 345w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/yzobrazhenye_viber_2026-06-14_20-56-35-145-101x135.jpg 101w, https:\/\/www.tdmu.edu.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/yzobrazhenye_viber_2026-06-14_20-56-35-145.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 345px) 100vw, 345px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-paragraph\">One of the key outcomes of the Congress will be the development of educational materials that will serve as a resource for multicultural education in the fields of health and sport and can be implemented across all European Union member states. Such educational resources will promote a better understanding of the influence of culture on health and physical activity, encourage healthy lifestyles in diverse communities across different countries, and support multicultural competence among students, educators, and healthcare professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A delegation from I.
