Thanks to long-standing international cooperation between Ternopil National Medical University and the Akkon University of Human Sciences in Berlin, and with the support of Professor Timo Ulrichs, Director of the Institute for Research in International Assistance at Akkon University, TNMU representatives visited Berlin to participate in a series of international scientific events.<\/p>\n\n

The university was represented by Hanna Saturska, Professor of the Department of Public Health and Healthcare Management, Evelina Sas, a fourth-year medical student, and Viktoria Miroshnyk, a Master’s student in Healthcare Management.<\/p>\n\n

The visit program included participation in the 9th German-Eastern European Health Forum, the 8th International Symposium of Young Scientists on Global Health, the 2026 Rudolf Virchow Prize ceremony, and the World Health Summit 2026\u2014one of the leading international platforms for discussing current challenges and prospects for global health development.<\/p>\n\n

On October 9, 2026, TNMU representatives joined the 9th German-Eastern European Health Forum, dedicated to current public health issues and the theme “New Approaches in Healthcare in Eastern Europe.” The event was supported by the German Eastern Business Association and the German Health Alliance (GHA). This year’s forum served as a platform for professional dialogue on key challenges and development prospects for European healthcare systems. Main discussion topics included European cooperation in building resilient healthcare systems, the role of regulatory harmonization, joint strategies for preventing neurodegenerative diseases, and the digital transformation of medicine\u2014from effective data use to practical application in medical care. Participation in the forum allowed TNMU representatives to learn from the experience of German and Eastern European scientists, experts, and healthcare organizers. In their reports, participants presented significant professional achievements, shared practical developments, and outlined current public health problems in various European countries and regions. Such exchange of experience promotes deeper international professional dialogue and the search for common approaches to building effective and resilient healthcare systems. <\/p>\n\n

On October 10-11, 2026, another satellite scientific event of the World Health Summit took place\u2014the 8th International Symposium of Young Scientists on Global Health. The event brought together young researchers from around the world, creating a space for presenting scientific work, exchanging experience, and establishing international cooperation in public health. The symposium began with welcoming speeches by Professor Ulrike Morgenstern, Vice President of Akkon University, and Dr. Gaby Feldmann, Co-Director of the Institute for Research in International Assistance (IRIA) at the university. In their addresses, they wished the young scientists significant professional and scientific achievements, emphasizing the importance of expanding opportunities for international, interregional, and interdisciplinary cooperation to find effective solutions to current public health problems. <\/p>\n\n

Over two days, TNMU representatives had the opportunity to learn about research results from scientists across the globe, including South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Yemen, Pakistan, the Philippines, Antigua and Barbuda, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Indonesia. The diversity of the reports demonstrated the global nature of modern healthcare challenges and the importance of uniting the scientific potential of different countries to overcome them. <\/p>\n\n

A key part of the TNMU representatives’ participation was the presentation of fragments of their own scientific research in a joint presentation titled “Modern Approaches to Improving the Diagnosis and Prevention of Cancer Through the Introduction of New Imaging Techniques in Medicine.”<\/p>\n\n

In their speeches, they emphasized the importance of continuous professional development for young scientists, courage in implementing new research ideas, and the expansion of international cooperation to solve modern global problems. <\/p>\n\n

An important and highly prestigious part of the TNMU delegation’s scientific visit was their participation in the events and the formal ceremony of the 2026 Virchow Prize. This international award, which has gained recognition in the global scientific community, is named after the prominent German physician, pathologist, and founder of social medicine Rudolf Virchow, and is awarded annually for outstanding achievements in global health. The prize aims to honor innovative initiatives that contribute to solving humanity’s most complex problems and embody the key humanistic principle of “Health for All.” <\/p>\n\n

This event is one of the most authoritative and largest annual forums on a planetary scale, bringing together leading politicians, government officials, heads of international organizations (including the World Health Organization), prominent scientists, industry experts, and opinion leaders from around the world to develop future healthcare strategies. <\/p>\n\n

This year’s summit was held under the highly relevant slogan\u2014“From Crisis to Resilience: Innovating for Health”<\/em>. The program’s main focus was on the transformation of healthcare systems in the face of modern geopolitical, climatic, and humanitarian challenges, the digitalization of medicine, the implementation of innovative biomedical technologies, and strengthening countries’ capacity to respond to emergencies. <\/p>\n\n

A point of special pride and a significant event for the Ukrainian community within the summit was the speech by Ukraine’s Minister of Health, Viktor Liashko. His report focused on the unprecedented experience of ensuring the resilience, continuity, and adaptation of the Ukrainian healthcare system under conditions of full-scale war, constant crises, and destruction. This speech resonated widely internationally, demonstrating the strength, courage, and innovative approaches of Ukrainian medics in preserving the lives and health of citizens. <\/p>\n\n
