Jessica and Belissa Scherer Fernandez, 5th year medical students, recently attended the Hackathon at Harvard University, Boston, held on April 05-06, 2024, and won second place at the competition titled Artificial Intelligence and Medicine in the Cardiovascular Track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n



The Harvard Health Systems Innovation Lab hosted the 5th Health Systems Innovation Hackathon on Friday, the 5th, and Saturday, the 6th, of April 2024. This year\u2019s theme was \u2018Building High-Value Health Systems: Harnessing Digital Health and Artificial Intelligence\u2019. The hackathon had three tracks including cardiovascular disease and diabetes, cancer, and mental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The HSIL Hackathon seeks to enable innovators to tackle global healthcare challenges through collaboration and creative thinking. Professionals and practitioners from various sectors collaborate to create realistic solutions that can transform healthcare delivery. By creating an environment conducive to invention, the hackathon acts as a catalyst for good change, bridging the gap between theory and practice. These ground-breaking solutions have the potential to improve patient care, operational efficiency, and the productivity of healthcare systems in a global setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our students, Belissa and Jessica, chose the cardiovascular track with the promising pitch \u201cCardioVita\u201d which can change the course of management in restenosis after stent implantation. The group consisting of 4 members, Jessica, Belissa, Ryan and Krish, won second place as a \u201cRunner-up\u201d in a selective group of participants including post-docs, trainees, and students. They are currently working to implement the idea in the healthcare setting with their team members. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
