SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES
The scientific activities of the Institute of Biomedical Problems include planning and writing dissertations, departmental and interdepartmental research, organizing and participating in national and international scientific forums, preparing student research papers, and maintaining the microbiological research laboratory.
The Institute of Biomedical Problems has a staff of 11 Doctors of Science in Medicine, 1 Doctor of Science in Veterinary Medicine, 25 PhDs in Medicine, 14 PhDs in Biology, 2 PhDs in Pedagogy, 2 PhDs in Economics, 1 PhD in Pharmacy, 1 PhD in Philology, 1 PhD in Geography, and 1 PhD in Philosophy (Theology).
The following research projects are underway:
The Institute’s staff has received more than 50 patents for inventions, as well as 25 certificates for innovative proposals, and has published more than 1,000 publications in journals and collections of articles. Every year at the meetings of the Institute’s departments, reports of PhD students on the scientific work performed and reports on the implementation of departmental and interdepartmental research are presented.
Currently, the Institute’s staff is working on one doctoral and about 10 PhD theses. In scientific research, special attention is paid to the study of the impact of geo-meteorological factors on the health of students and their microbiological status, focusing on staphylococcal infection, the impact of social factors as contributors that can significantly affect the development and course of chronic pathology of the cardiovascular system, especially arterial hypertension.
In March 2003, the Microbiological and Parasitological Research Laboratory was established; it has passed state accreditation and received the Certificate of Authorization to conduct measurements. The areas of scientific interest of the laboratory staff are microbial ecology of humans at different ages in health and pathology; adhesive, antagonistic, anticomplementary properties of microorganisms; antibiotic sensitivity of bacteria; the impact of microorganisms on the development of somatic diseases; problems of probiotics in medicine, helminthiasis. The laboratory performs sanitary and preventive examinations of employees and students of all faculties of the University, including more than 6000 bacteriological tests to identify carriers of Staphylococcus aureus and pathogenic enterobacteria, and more than 3000 parasitological tests. In addition, it is engaged in scheduled research and dissertation work.
Microbiological and Parasitological Research Laboratory
The Department of Physiology, Bioethics and Biosafety has 6 thematic laboratories fitted with the latest equipment that allows for the assessment of the functions of organs and body systems at the modern level: functional diagnostics of the nervous and endocrine systems; functional diagnostics of the blood system; functional diagnostics of the circulatory system; functional diagnostics of the respiratory system; functional diagnostics of the digestive and excretory systems; functional diagnostics of sensory systems. The laboratory of functional diagnostics of the nervous and endocrine systems performs studies of cerebral cortex functions using a domestically produced computer electroencephalographic complex, a computer myography complex, studies reflexes, and performs experimental work to study the effect of the autonomic nervous system and humoral factors on body functions.
Measurements of intraocular pressure using a non-contact digital indicator
Examination of the cornea and optical media of the eye using an autorefractometer/keratorefractometer URK-700
Mathematical analysis of the heart rhythm using the electrocardiographic complex Spectrum+. Assessing the state of central hemodynamics using chest rheography
Ultrasound diagnostics
