Rules of conduct

While in Ternopil or other places in Ukraine:

– do not violate existing laws, regulations, rules;

– have your Passport and Permit for Temporary Residence in Ukraine, as well as student ID, with you;

– pay for public transportation on time;

– follow traffic rules and rules of use of vehicles;

– communicate with friends, Dean of the Faculty of International Students

Ternopil National Medical University recognizes human civilization values, according to which a person’s belonging to any national, ethnic, linguistic, gender or social group should never be a reason for discrimination or abusive, offensive attitude.

A student must:

– follow the traditions of the University and accepted norms of behavior;

– take care of the property of the University;

– follow official dress code;

– carry out orders and instructions of the administration;

– comply with health and safety, hygiene, fire safety foreseen by the relevant rules and regulations.

 

Rules and Academic Requirements

Students should attend classes, do their home assignments on time, enjoy sports and outdoors activities, have regular refreshment and rest, participate in the cultural life of Ternopil community.

It is mandatory for the students to attend classes and study at home. Students have to observe their class schedule, never miss classes or be late. Every student must know that regular academic work during the semester would spare much of pre-exam preparations.

The students must be present at the classroom before classes start. During the lessons they can’t visit the Dean’s office, canteen etc. Students may consult with their professors during and after classes.

Any student who has missed 20% or more classes without any serious reason would face problems and may be expelled from the University.

 

During classes, students must follow the disciplinary rules:

– there is a dress code in the university: white coat, cap and the changing shoes;

– it is forbidden to be late to classes;

– as a sign of greeting, students have to stand up when a teacher enters the room;

– unnecessary talking (including mobile phone calls) and noise that interrupt the classes are not allowed;

– leaving the room during a class is allowed only with the permission of a teacher;

– a student can’t miss classes for more than two weeks without permission or an information from the group leader;

– all missed classes must be reworked;

– a student will be allowed to rework missed classes if he/she submits an application to the Dean and gets permission from the Vice-Dean (an example of application is available here http://int.tdmu.edu.ua/application-samples/);

– if a class was missed without a serious reason, a student will pay for class rework;

– no fighting or exchange of rude words between group mates is allowed, if there is any misunderstanding, one should report it to the Dean’s office;

– it is forbidden to take photographs and record videos at the departments where parts of the human body are used for academic purposes during classes;

– it is forbidden to disclose information about patients and their health.

 

Disciplinary punishment

The one guilty in the breach of the University Code of Conduct (https://www.tdmu.edu.ua/en/education/rules/) may be reprimanded or rebuked.

For violation of internal regulations and discipline, students may incur disciplinary punishment:

– eviction from the hostel;

– expulsion from the University.

The cessation of the Individual Contract for studying at the University entails immediate cessation of the accommodation in the students’ hostels, and the person found guilty shall immediately leave the hostel.

In the event that the expelled individual refuses to leave Ukraine, he or she can be deported to the country of origin according to the Law in force, with the possible formal recognition of the above as a “Persona non grate” (Latin); the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine can report to the Embassy of his or her country.

 

In the University buildings and on campus, it is prohibited to:

– use alcohol, drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogues;

– smoke (except in designated areas);

– distribute and use drugs;

– behave in ways that do not meet generally accepted standards;

– stay in training facilities and offices at inopportune time;

– cause disturbance during classes;

– gamble;

– act immorally;

– provide false information, forge or falsify documents;

– prosecute or threaten anyone in any manner;

– stay in the University buildings with headdress on.

 

While in the hostel:

– follow internal hostel regulations;

– do not leave hostel room unattended;

– leaving the room, lock the door with a key, and shut the window;

– do not invite strangers to the hostel;

– do not give your hostel pass and room keys to anyone else;

– return to the hostel not later than 00:00 a.m.;

– your guests have to leave the hostel by 10:00 p.m.;

– to get a room in the hostel for your family members for a short time, write an application addressed to the campus director and submit it;

– follow the rules of elevator use;

– in hostel kitchens, follow the rules for the use of gas stoves, do not litter in the kitchens, throw garbage in the designated garbage bins;

– do not use electric heaters and cookers in your room;

– follow fire safety rules, do not smoke in the hostel;

– do not talk loudly, listen to loud music, and play musical instruments in a hostel after 23:00.

 

Public Transportation

Public transport is available from 7:00 to 23:00.

 

Rules during excursions and trips:

– follow the rules of conduct, do not leave the location of the group;

– treat nature, monuments of history and culture with care;

– follow the program, route, schedule of trips and excursions;

– obey the persons accompanying you

 

Traffic Regulations

Whilst crossing the streets, it is necessary to observe the traffic regulations. Failure to follow these rules can cause damage of health or even death. Be attentive on the streets!

Be attentive on roads in winter, when it’s slippery. Do not walk close to sides of buildings in winter, since there could be heavy snowfalls and falling of icicles from the roofs frequently.

Staying in the City

In order to avoid problems whilst being away from the university or hostels it is necessary:

– to familiarize yourselves with the cultural aspects of behavior in the city, relations with local residents of different age groups, the time for safe walks and other issues;

– when having walks, it is desirable to avoid being alone, rather accompanied by group mates or senior fellow citizens;

– before going shopping it is advisable to get to know the names of the products to be purchased, have them written to show to the shop assistant.

– in case you have an unpleasant incident, let your tutor or Dean’s office know about it and they will do everything possible to help you.

 

In Case You Are Stopped by the Local Police

A policeman can stop you in the street and ask for your passport, temporary residence permit, student’s identity card (“studentsky kvytok” in the Ukrainian language). You must carry your temporary residence permit with you all the time.

You can be detained by the police for clarifying different questions, but no more than for 2 hours, in case you happen to be without person identifying documents.

When detained, ask a policeman to call to the Dean’s office (tel. +380352253998), to inspector responsible for your year of studying or to the Dean.

 

Shopping

Food stores are open daily from 8:00 to 20:00, many shops work 24/7.

Household goods shops are open from 10:00 to 19:00 with a break from 14:00 to 15:00 and closed on Sundays. The opening and closing hours may differ from shop to shop. Post-offices, drugstores and banks are open daily except for Sundays from 9:00 to 19:00. Cash dispensers work 24 hours a day.
