Sixth-year students of academic group IM-635 shared their impressions of the preparation and participation in the VIIth International Olympiad in Simulation Medicine among medical students “TernopilSimOlymp”, which took place on December 4-6, 2024.

The event brought together future doctors from different countries, who competed in practicing practical skills that are critical for providing assistance to patients in emergency conditions.

Two teams of international students took part in the competition. The first team consisting of Pawar Aishwarya Satishkumar, Wadkar Poorva Sachin and Navnееt won the nomination “Best International Team”, demonstrating a high level of professionalism and coordination. The second team, represented by Rajmedhi Anukampa, Chetanbir Singh and Khot Samrudhi Ravinder, also showed a decent result.

The teachers of the Department of Emergency and Simulation Medicine, including Alina Tomkiv, Iryna Yastremska, Emilia Burbela, were involved in the preparation of the Olympiad. The Olimpiad took place in their free time, which gave the participants the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and practice their skills in conducting primary and secondary examinations of adult and pediatric patients, performing basic and advanced resuscitation measures using a manual defibrillator, providing post-resuscitation support at the early hospital stage, examining injured patients and sorting during mass casualties, as well as in managing emergency conditions in cardiology.

According to the students, participating in the competition was an invaluable experience. They improved their professional skills, experienced in practice what it means to work under stress and lack of resources, and developed self-control, which is important for a doctor in critical situations. The Olympiad allowed them to improve their level of communicative competence, as the simulation scenarios involved interaction with patients of different ages and conditions.
