The Center for International Projects “Euroeducation” (https://euroosvita.net/), in partnership with the international expert group IREG Observatory on Academic Ranking and Excellence (http://ireg-observatory.org/en/), has recently published the 19th academic ranking of higher education institutions in Ukraine — “Top 200 Ukraine 2025.”
I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University ranked second among all medical and pharmaceutical universities in Ukraine and took 27th place overall among the 200 higher education institutions included in the national ranking.

When compiling this year’s ranking, the experts considered modern trends in the transformation of higher education. Special attention was given to the Berlin Principles, approved during the second IREG meeting in Berlin, Germany (May 18–20, 2006, link), as well as the IREG 2024 Conference recommendations — “AI Influence on Higher Education and Rankings” (link).
In the Top 200 Ukraine 2025 ranking, increased focus was placed on indicators reflecting the impact of artificial intelligence on:
- research activities,
- innovation output,
- and the social influence of universities.
Among international ranking systems that fully account for these effects, the THE University Impact Rankings 2025 stands out. Its methodology incorporates cutting-edge AI tools, particularly large language models (LLMs), for automatic analysis and verification of data submitted by universities. This significantly enhances the accuracy and transparency of the evaluation process.
In this year’s edition, the Webometrics ranking indicators were replaced by a more structured and representative indicator — the SCImago Institutions Rankings, updated in 2024. Its methodology is based on three key components:
Research (50%) – including increased publication and patent output related to AI;
Innovation (30%) – measured by the number of AI-related patents and patent citations;
Societal (20%) – reflecting the university’s growing online and academic platform presence, largely due to the use of AI technologies.
