The EAIE Doctoral Research Grants

Launched in 2025, the EAIE Doctoral Research Grants were created to address a familiar challenge: doctoral research in international education is often ambitious and timely, but under-resourced.

After awarding our first cohort of grantees last year, the EAIE is continuing its commitment to supporting research that strengthens the link between evidence, practice and policy in international higher education.

Applications for the 2026 research grants are now open

Following a highly successful first round, the EAIE Doctoral Research Grants are back with a new call for applications. Designed for early-career scholars, these grants support doctoral students and candidates whose research explores the internationalisation of higher education, in all its forms, contexts and regions.

You can apply for funding of up to €4,500 to help advance your research.

Is this grant right for you?

The grants are open to doctoral candidates worldwide whose research focuses on international education in ways that are relevant to the EAIE community. Funding can be used to support essential research activities, including:

  • Travel for fieldwork or academic conferences
  • Access to data, archives or academic resources
  • Tools, software or materials needed for your research

Recipients also gain visibility within the EAIE’s global community, opportunities to present their work at the 2027 EAIE Conference and Exhibition, and a platform to share research that can influence practice across the field of international education.
