In the new edition of the global ranking of academic and research institutions, SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) 2026, I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University ranked second among medical higher education institutions in Ukraine and thirteenth in the overall list of Ukrainian universities
(https://www.scimagoir.com/rankings.php?sector=Higher+educ.&country=UKR).
This year, 75 Ukrainian universities were included in the SCImago Institutions Rankings for the first time. In total, the Spanish research group SCImago Lab evaluated the performance of 10,000 scientific and educational institutions worldwide, including more than 5,000 universities.
SCImago Institutions Rankings is a respected international evaluation system for scientific and academic institutions. Since 2009, it has assessed institutional performance based on three key areas:
- research performance (50%),
- innovation outputs (30%), and
- societal impact (20%).
The evaluation takes into account:
• the impact of scientific publications;
• the level of international collaboration;
• open access to research;
• the development of patent activity;
• the university’s technological contribution and digital presence.
