The French Research Centre for Humanities and Social Sciences (CEFRES, Prague) and the Marc Bloch Centre (CMB, Berlin) propose a fellowship programme initiated in 2023 at CEFRES and jointly continued since 2024 by CEFRES and the CMB (73 grants were awarded between 2023 and 2025).
FELLOWSHIPS
- A EUR 2,000 grant to each fellow to support their research activities in Ukraine in partnership with French, German, and Czech colleagues in the UMIFRE
- Research grants for 2-3-week stays in France according to Campus France conditions for senior researchers (stipend, accommodation at reduced fare, travel expenses)
- Fellows will also be invited for one week to one of the two associated UMIFRE to present their work and network with scholars in Prague or Berlin
- Fellows will be associated with one of the UMIFRE (CEFRES or CMB) for the academic year 2026-2027. During this period, Ukrainian fellows will have access to all scientific activities of the UMIFREs in hybrid mode
- Fellows will have access to the databases offered by the CNRS.
ELIGIBILITY
- Ukrainian researchers with a doctorate (kandidat nauk / doktor nauk) in the humanities or social sciences
- who had to or chose to remain in Ukraine since the Russian full-scale invasion
- NB: Laureates of previous editions of the programme are eligible for this call.
The research projects will be assessed on their quality and interest for bilateral cooperation by a research committee made up of experts in the humanities and social sciences and representatives of the French diplomatic network through the French Institute in Ukraine.
APPLICATION
Applicants should submit the following documents (in English or French) to michaela.banszelova@cefres.cz:
- Research proposal (max. 4 pages, incl. reasons to join CEFRES or CMB)
- Cover letter (max. 2 pages) indicating:
- the length of stay in France requested
- desired period of stay (between September and December 2026)
- (optional) the impact of the Russian invasion on your research
- A letter of invitation (max. 1 page) from or email exchanges with an identified French scientific partner confirming mutual interest
- Current academic CV
- An up-to-date list of publications
