TNMU Held Scientific and Applied Conference “Prospects for the Development of Medical and Physical Rehabilitation at Different Levels of Medical Care”

On September 28-29, 2023, I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University hosted the All-Ukrainian scientific and applied conference with international participation “Prospects for the development of medical and physical rehabilitation at various levels of medical care”. This year, the scientific event was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Department of Medical Rehabilitation and the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Department of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physical Education.

Taking into account the military status introduced in Ukraine and in order to ensure the maximum safety of the participants, the conference was held online. The conference was broadcast on the YouTube channel, which made it possible to significantly expand the audience, because participants from all over the world could join its work. In total, 205 participants officially registered for the conference, and about 1,000 participants visited the broadcast channel every day.

During the conference, a plenary meeting, specialised workshops, and breakout sessions on cardiorehabilitation and preventive cardiology were held. The online format of the conference made it possible to ensure not only a wide audience of listeners, but also to invite speakers from different regions of Ukraine and foreign countries. At the conference, scientists and practical specialists from all over Ukraine had the opportunity to present their work, in particular from Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Lviv, Kropyvnytskyi, Poltava, Lutsk, Ivano-Frankivsk, Dnipro, etc. The international level was provided by leading scientists from universities and rehabilitation institutions in Poland and Germany.

During the meetings, 22 scientific reports were presented and discussed, and 13 workshops were held. Based on the materials of the conference, a collection of scientific papers “Actual issues of physical therapy and rehabilitation” was published.

The topics of the conference covered a wide range of problems and was related to setting the strategic tasks and prospects for the development of medical and physical rehabilitation, the organization of the rehabilitation system in Ukraine, the issue of training personnel for rehabilitation services with an emphasis on their practical training during the educational process, the development of rehabilitation programs and technologies in the rehabilitation treatment of various pathologies based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health. Of course, the main issue in the work of the conference was the provision of comprehensive rehabilitation assistance to servicemen, their family members and forcibly displaced persons. Much attention at the conference was devoted to the implementation of modern evidence-based scientifically substantiated rehabilitation methods in health care practice.

On behalf of the chairman of the organizing committee, the Rector of TNMU, Professor Mykhaylo Korda, the Vice-Rector for Science and Education, Professor Arkadii Shulhai, wished success and effective cooperation to the participants of the scientific event. He drew attention to the fact that Ukraine is currently paying special attention to the development of the rehabilitation system. In the conditions of military actions and post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, the effective functioning of the rehabilitation system in Ukraine is extremely relevant, special attention should be paid to the training of rehabilitation specialists and wide coverage of rehabilitation assistance to all citizens of Ukraine who need it.

The Head of the Department of Medical Rehabilitation, Professor Ihor Mysula, and the Head of the Department of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physical Education, Professor Daria Popovych addressed the participants with a congratulatory speech on behalf of the organizing committee.

At the plenary session, the reports of professors Oleksandr Vladimirov, Valerii Sokrut, Ihor Mysula, Daria Popovych, Lukian Andriiuk, Petro Kolisnyk, Dmytro Vakulenko, Tetiana Bakaliuk, Andrii Holiachenko were presented.

Modern scientific developments were presented by famous scientists and rehabilitators from foreign countries – Sebastian Rutkowski, Anna Pawlak, Aneta Kutna, Władysław Batkiewicz, Gustaw Wojcik.

The reports of Ukrainian scientists and foreign partners, who presented their own scientific developments to the attention of the audience, aroused considerable interest.

At the workshops, the participants of the conference had the opportunity to hear the current reports on various topics of practical direction.

The section “Cardiorehabilitation and preventive cardiology” under the leadership of Prof. M. I. Shved and Prof. L. V. Levytska was noted for its high informativeness and practical orientation.

Leading European and Ukrainian experts from various scientific and medical institutions presented their reports: Dr. Roland Nebel (cardiologist, specialist in cardiorehabilitation, Roberbirken Clinic, Germany), Diogo Kandel (master of sports medicine, director of the Ergoline Academy, Germany), Prof. M. M. Dolzhenko (P.L. Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine, Kyiv); Assoc. Prof. M. S. Sorokivskyi (Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University), professors O. P. Venger and S. I. Smiian from Ternopil National Medical University.

After the presentations, the conference resolution was adopted.

The organizing committee decided to transfer all the funds that were collected from organizational fees by the participants of the conference to the charity account of TNMU Volunteer Centre for the purchase of medicines and medical supplies for our defenders. Employees of the Department of Medical Rehabilitation, Department of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physical Education, and Department of Emergency Medical Care joined the fundraising.
