TNMU Teachers Won the Third Prize in the”SimCup 2023″ Emergency Medicine Competition

On September 17-20, 2023, teachers of the Department of Emergency and Simulation Medicine of TNMU were participants in the European Congress on Emergency Medicine – EUSEM 2023, which took place in Barcelona (Spain). This event is aimed at medical workers in the field of emergency medicine. The Congress brought together more than 3,000 specialists from around the world. There was an opportunity to learn about new developments in emergency medicine, share best practices and communicate with like-minded people. We had the honour of personally meeting Judith Tintinalie, who is the author of the world-renowned textbook on emergency medicine, as well as other famous scientists and practitioners in this field.

As part of the Congress, a competition in emergency medicine – “SimCup 2023” took place, in which a team from Ukraine took part. Its members included TNMU Assistant Professors Antonina Chervatiuk and Nargiz Javadova, Liliia Skolska, Head of the Educational and Training Centre of “Academia Dobrobut” Private Higher Education Institution and Anzhelika Shpachuk, Instructor of “Academia Dobrobut” Private Higher Education Institution. Associate Professor of the Department of Emergency and Simulation Medicine Halyna Tsymbaliuk accompanied the team.

Participants from Estonia, Belgium, Turkey, France, Ireland, Great Britain competed for the title of the best team.

The simulation tasks covered the pre-hospital and early hospital stage. The goal of all tasks was to provide care to critical patients (including paediatric and trauma patients). Among the “patients” were children with a severe attack of bronchial asthma, with septic shock, traumatized patients with penetrating wounds and chemical lesions, mass cases, resuscitation measures, critical rhythm disturbances against the background of poisoning by an unknown substance, pregnant women with further childbirth, etc. After passing all the stages, our team took third place, behind Belgium and Ireland, who won first and second prizes respectively.

Also during the Congress, there was an exhibition where we got acquainted with new modern technologies and developments used in emergency medicine around the world.

Next year, we plan to compete with our European colleagues in Copenhagen as part of EUSEM 2024.
