Representatives of TNMU Participated in the National Forum on Open Science and the Improvement of Research Assessment

On June 4–6, 2026, the consortium of the Open4UA project organized the National Forum on Open Science and the Improvement of Research Assessment at the H. Denysenko Scientific and Technical Library of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute in Kyiv.

The event was held in a hybrid format with online broadcasting and brought together Ukrainian and European experts, representatives of state authorities, heads of higher education institutions, researchers, and project partners. Representing I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University in person in Kyiv were Professor Oksana Shevchuk and Associate Professor Kateryna Kytsai. The rest of the team and interested participants joined the online broadcast.

The event became an important stage in disseminating the results and communication of the Erasmus+ CBHE project “Open Science for the Ukrainian Higher Education System – Open4UA,” of which the TNMU team is also a part. The project aims to support Ukraine’s post-war recovery and European integration through the implementation of open science principles at the national, institutional, and individual levels.

The program began with welcoming remarks from Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Denys Kurbatov, Open4UA Chief Coordinator Oleksandr Berezko, Director General of the Directorate for Science Development at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine Hryhorii Mozolevych, Coordinator of the National Erasmus+ Office in Ukraine Svitlana Shytikova, Chair of the Scientific Committee of the National Council of Ukraine for Science and Technology Development Professor Oleksandra Antoniuk, Executive Director of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine Olha Polotska, and representatives of Ihor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.

Forum participants also listened to plenary presentations focused on key priorities, including legislative harmonization, reforming the system of research assessment in the context of open science and CoARA principles, the development of open science policies, and institutional transformation in Ukraine’s higher education sector.

Among the central events of the forum were professional discussions involving representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the National Research Foundation of Ukraine, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance, as well as leading European experts and members of the Open4UA Advisory Board.

The opening of the second day of the event began with presentations of the results of Open4UA pilot initiatives implemented at three Ukrainian higher education institutions: I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University (Professor Oksana Shevchuk), Berdyansk State Pedagogical University (Professor Yana Sychikova and Professor Ihor Lyman), and Mariupol State University (Associate Professor Tetiana Marena and Professor Svitlana Kalinina).

Participants were also interested in learning about OPEN4UA collaborations with other projects and initiatives, including the Global Federation of Reproducibility Networks (GFRN), TRUSTparency, SPOZNAJ, CATALYST, DigiUni, SECURE 2, PHAROS, and the Ukrainian Reproducibility Network (UARN), which were presented during a separate session.

Special attention was given by Dr. Sebastian Dahle (University of Ljubljana, Slovenia) to the presentation of the new ADMIRE project, the successor to OPEN4UA.

The event became a national platform for exchanging best practices, collecting feedback from stakeholders, and strengthening the knowledge base necessary for the development of open science and responsible research assessment within Ukraine’s higher education system.
