TNMU Showcases Its Scientific Achievements at an International Symposium in Romania
From June 30 to July 1, 2026, Professor Petro Bodnar, MD, DSc, Head of the L. Ya. Kovalchuk Department of Surgery No. 1 with Urology and Minimally Invasive Surgery at I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, participated in the International Symposium on Surgical Techniques and Innovations (ISSTI-26) held in Bucharest, Romania.

During the international scientific forum, Professor Bodnar delivered a presentation entitled “Surgical Strategy for Patients with Combined Atherosclerotic Disease of the Extracranial Carotid Arteries and the Aortoiliac Segment.”

His presentation highlighted contemporary approaches to selecting the optimal surgical strategy for patients with combined atherosclerotic lesions of the extracranial carotid arteries and the aortoiliac segment. Particular attention was given to the sequencing and staging of reconstructive procedures, assessment of surgical risk, and individualized treatment planning for patients with multifocal atherosclerosis.
Participation in the symposium provided an opportunity to explore the latest advances in modern surgery, minimally invasive and reconstructive techniques, international clinical guidelines, and the findings of current scientific research.
The event also featured scientific discussions and professional meetings with representatives of international universities, hospitals, and research institutions. Participants discussed prospects for international collaboration, joint research projects, scientific publications, and the further development of academic partnerships.
Professor Petro Bodnar represented the scientific and educational potential of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University on the international stage. The knowledge and experience gained during the symposium will be applied to clinical practice, the educational process, the training of young researchers, and the department’s future scientific activities.
The participation of the TNMU representative in this international symposium contributed to promoting the university’s scientific achievements, strengthening international professional cooperation, and advancing the integration of Ukrainian medical science into the global academic community.
