TNMU Has Been Providing Free Dental Care to Ukraine’s Defenders for Three Years

For the past three years, the Dental Department of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University has been providing free dental care to combat veterans, persons with war-related disabilities, foreign nationals serving under military contracts in Ukraine, and individuals released from captivity. Eligible patients can receive services under two major programs funded by the National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSU): dental prosthetics and dental treatment.

According to Volodymyr Machohan, Head of the Dental Department, between January and June 2026, the department performed 341 free X-ray examinations for military personnel, including 168 panoramic radiographs (orthopantomograms) and 173 periapical dental X-rays. During the same period, the department treated 2,881 patients, of whom 1,080 were military personnel. Under the NHSU programs, 67 servicemen received dental prosthetic treatment, while 249 underwent dental treatment.

At TNMU, the following categories of patients are eligible for free dental prosthetic services:

  • combat veterans;
  • persons with war-related disabilities;
  • military personnel.

To receive these services, applicants must provide copies of the following documents while presenting the originals:

  • passport of a citizen of Ukraine;
  • taxpayer identification number (tax ID);
  • an appropriate certificate (combat veteran, person with a war-related disability, or war participant) and/or a military ID for enlisted personnel, sergeants, and senior non-commissioned officers.

Military personnel who are not on leave may also obtain a referral from their unit commander for dental treatment or prosthetic services.
