Ternopil National Medical University Expands Scientific Cooperation with Poland in the Field of Epidemiology

Professor Krzysztof Korzeniewski, Head of the Department of Epidemiology and Tropical Medicine (Gdynia), Professor at the Military Institute of Medicine (Warsaw), and President of the Polish Society of Maritime, Tropical and Travel Medicine, visited I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University on July 28–29, 2026, to discuss the expansion of scientific cooperation.

The meeting was attended by Petro Likhatskyi, Rector of TNMU; Oleksandra Oleshchuk, Vice-Rector for Research; Professor Mariia Shkilna of the Department of Infectious Diseases with Epidemiology, Skin and Venereal Diseases; and Ruslan Semenyna, dermatovenereologist at Ternopil Regional Clinical Hospital.

The primary purpose of the visit was to discuss prospects for bilateral scientific cooperation, particularly a joint study of the epidemiological situation in Ukraine under the conditions of the full-scale war, as well as an analysis of current epidemiological trends in Poland.

During the meeting, the participants addressed the challenges facing healthcare systems resulting from martial law, migration, and the increased risk of infectious disease spread. They also outlined plans for joint research projects and the exchange of scientific expertise.
